Glad you think so.......

This is all it had on the DVLA site:

'You’ll need to send the original foreign registration certificate to show when the vehicle was manufactured (you won’t get this back).

You may be able to prove the date another way if you don’t have this, eg with a letter from the manufacturer or a vehicle enthusiast club.'

Given the tax free age limit is now around 74 or 75 does it matter? I mean just use the build date as per US documentation and be done...IMHO.

Your right Datsfun. The DVLA have never required a letter from a club for cars that have the correct date on the registration document. Only those that you are claiming were built prior to the date on the document.

Your fine.

It still makes a difference for the black and silver plates I believe.

Agreed, but take a risk in life!! If you get pulled over, show them the build date stamp in the door;):smash:...in my experience if your car has that 70's look, I can't see boys in blue being remotely intrigued with age Vs black plate. That doesn't make it right but it's a very minor offence compared to other stuff you see on our roads.

Interesting - I have been looking into this with manufacturers of the plates and the Federation of British Vehicle Clubs (which we subscribe to). There may be changes to the rules which the DVLA are not communicating. I'll explain more later.

At least give us some clues, if i check the DVLA site it contradicts itself, on one part it states "manufactured before 1st Jan 1973" and next to it it states "registered before 1st Jan 1973"

What hope have we

Filled the v55 form in yesterday and I've put some notes on the guide. I've ticked the things you need to fill in and crossed out those you dont. Could someone have a quick look at it to see if I've missed anything?
