Missing Bolt

Hi, everyone.

I've encountered a problem that hopefully someone out there can help sort it out.

Long story short, I’m in the last phases of a 1973 240Z five speed manual rebuild. While fitting new bearings and seals to the Differential and gearbox I sent the various bolts away to be re-plated. Unfortunately, a bolt was lost and it just happened to be the one that holds the gear selector shaft in tension. See photos attached to help identify the part in question.

In the meantime, I have managed to get one machined but it’s a best guess at best. I wondered if someone knew the correct internal and external bolt dimensions for the (Plunger Plug bolt)

What I do know is, it’s a 20mm course threaded bolt with a hole bored into it, to take a spring and pin to hold the gear selector shaft in tension.

What I don't know is the correct length of the external thread and the internal diameter and depth of the hole in the body if the bolt.

So if you have a gearbox out at the moment or have made notes of this particular bolts specs, do let me know.

As always, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

Hi Rob,

Hope these help - sorry for the amateur pics, but I hope they make sense! Any further info you require, just let me know.

There are two springs that fit inside the bolt - as per the pic. I just hope there wasn't a ball bearing or something similar as well! Or it's disappeared inside the box :oops:. Just hope I was ok taking the bolt out - I'd had a few pints

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the information, you're a star.

From what I can see on your drawing, length of thread is 20mm.

The hole inside the bolt is 12mm and is 13 mm deep.

Could you take a look at the sketch and confirm the dimensions?

Length of thread from inside shoulder of bolt head and the hole diameter and depth.

Thanks for the trouble you've taken to find this information. I owe you a drink or two.

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob,

Hope the pics clarify things a bit better!

The maximum depth of the inside hole is 15mm, but as the bottom is concave, the 'shoulders' are 13mm.

Thanks Phil, that has helped a lot. I can crack on now and get one machined up.
Much appreciated.
