The S30 gives you great feedback through the steering and is very 'catchable' . On a track the car can be 'coaxed' around corners by use of the throttle and steering. However my over-riding comment is that 'sensible' tyres make all this happen. I only used 195 on my trackday car and it was a dream. The other thing is the type of tyre - I used 'trackday' tyres and they are very forgiving and break away gradually (I assumed the opposite).

Having said all this I've just watched your 'ice driving' and that is VERY impressive.

I think you would be surprised on how easy it is to drive on ice :) I think the experience you gain makes you go off less and less, but any rookie can pull some impressive drifts on ice :D
    It's seriously fun!

Thanks for the writeup regarding the S30, sounds very promising!

I think trackday tires gives you better control in the sense that the side walls are much more predictable, but the rubber compound makes the more snappy. So much better feedback is general, but more on/off in their behavior. Which tires have you been using?

But they weren't on/off, that was what surprised me. Yoko AO32 and AO48.

These days we VERY rarely get snow where I live.

I learned to drive in my mothers MK1 astra van - I wished i had kept that ( although i do with most of the cars i have owned )

In order of ownership with Year of manufacture

1974 VW Type 2 Devon camper- was my first vehicle ( I wasnt a boy racer ) - eventially rotted away in a farm yard ( didnt need much help)
1972 VW Type 2 Microbus - ( S African import - had at the same time as the above after it failed MOT for major rust issues ) - sold to fund split with ex
1989 ( ? ) Peugot 309 1.1 - Covered in snowboard stickers ( previous owner not me) and had the power of a sh!t hairdryer but comfy seats. I lost the door keys and had to climb in through the boot ( seperate ignition key ) .
1982 (?) MK 2 Golf - Same colour as a Caramac bar . Engine expired driving to watch England match on TV and I missed the whole thing .
1984 Mercedes 300TD estate - Glorious . Bought to go to Glastonbury in . Previously hauled wood as a living . Smelled of pine and gave out splinters. Sold to friend who filled the radiator with duck eggs when radiator split . Then stolen.
    2002 ( ? ) Audi A2 - Company Car
1970 - Datsun 240z - Still own it - plans for restoration ongoing
2007 Ford Focus - Company Car
    2000 Honda S2000 - Loved it
2001 - Audi 4.2 V8 Quattro Sport - Comfy - thirsty, and had a stain on the back seat like a dead body had been there . Great car
    2013 - VW Amarok
2016 - Toyota Hi Lux - written off when stationary - rear ended at high speed.
    2018 - Nissan Navara Deranged ( current daily )

    do you like capris?
  11. Amble280

    Z Club Member

Just a little bit, I just happened to have bought quite a few over the years. I do however prefer rear wheel drive.
I once reversed a Capri into a 4'deep ditch & ended up paying £100 for a tow truck to pull the car out, my father didn't stop laughing about that one for a long time. I did however run that car for a few years after the little mishap.

oh i know! Pedalled one around knockhill, felt closer to the CSL than my E46 M3 did.
The S54 is a peach and the whole package as a do it all car is the best i have had.
I know a few ex Z4M owners, usually unhappy looking folks!
