Losing weight...

Firstly... is this the best forum for conversion questions... it should be... but anyway...

I'm just wondering if removing the front panels, bonnet and some chopping here and there, then replacing with fiberglass would alter the handling of the car... as no doubt fiberglass will weigh less than the original metal panels would when performing the 250gto conversion on a Z...?

Would you have to balance it out some how?

DOn't know sorry but thyere is a lady (yes LADY) on Hybridz called Chelle who has done this conversion herself and has put a V12 BMW engine in - she has also stretched the wheelbase to make the kit look more authentic.

She is a very competent engineer by the look of it and is really happy to share info on her conversion - try here :

Don't really think that you'd have to worry too much about the overall weight distribution with a GTO kit. I don't think that the weight difference would be that huge anyway, plus as the weight is spread over a reasonable length any change in it will have a less severe effect than if it was all stuck out at the front.

Back end may possibly get a bit heavier though. Not much material is really removed is it? Bit of the wheel arch? Then the fibre glass kit is delicately bunged on top right? Added weight over the rear axle is possibly useful though, that and wider rubber should keep the back end in place.

Cheers,
Rob
