Ok, false start Alan and wrongly assumed on my part. If you want to discuss this off forum and we make a combined effort on behalf and with the owner, I'm up and perhaps you could share a photo or three please ? I love the spec already albeit with all those useless plastic bits......

No point discussing it as the people concerned lost interest when their project was refused and the car - as I have mentioned - has moved on, with the conglomeration of begged and borrowed parts mostly split up. I've got some of them myself...

Sean and Alan, my comment re 'plastic bits' was meant to imply that adding plastic bits to Rob Crofton's car would be inappropriate and add nothing. If the idea is to replicate a 24hr race from the 70s when a Datsun took part then for the sake of accuracy it should be a 24hr race. So there is a compromise which stretches to the cars too. Alan you have a 'chip on your shoulder' which is nothing to do with us.

As you can tell from the Thread this is about Z Club owners taking their cars to Le Mans and adding to the carnival. Most are not bothered about the racing so you are both mis-directing your points.

Why are you trying to devalue Rob's fantastic achievement? If I was Rob Crofton I'd probably just get on with my racing and avoid coming on here.

Rob.

No-one is trying to devalue Rob Cs achievement and being picky "Most are not bothered about the racing" - is another, rather broad statement ; I have to believe that the racing was the principal reason to come down at no small expense - everything else was surely a bonus ?

No, the idea is not to replicate a 24hr race and there are plenty of longer, classic endurance races within Europe and Rob C has already done one of them (I believe ?) at Spa. But just keeping a Z going through a regular HSCC-type season is a big enough challenge, being competitive is another step up !
The idea is that Alan (and I) are both surprised that the race organisers accept such a car ie not in period colours nor visuel or mechanical spec. After that, perhaps Alan and I differ - I'm with you that it was great to see a Z at Le Mans again and frankly, he did better this year than 2016 and 2016 was light years above the 'performances' of Michel Gilles and his silver 240Z which was again way above that of the 2006 white Z.
In short, there was a lot of chat and admiration in the pits for Rob and his Z which is all positive for the make and who knows if someone won't take on a projet to put another in the paddock - too many 911s but if no-one proposes something else, they'll take what they can find to fill up the grid - Peter Auto is a business after all !

Sammys got the stand area before and Paul lost his exhaust even on flat grass unless that was some other part coming loose....EVERYONE who received tickets or a pass from me had a plan/map of how to reach the club stand with BOTH my telephone numbers printed upon it - some people need to open their eye.
:p

Wasn’t flat grass that done me exhaust and didn’t have the bit of paper with yer number on my fault but nor did anyone else, kerb done me spoiler trying to get if off as suspension was compressed which I think is wot done the damage, not a problem as it’s now booked into body shop for repair s,it’s only money so it doesn’t matter as all damage is getting done part of life’s dramas,it’s only a bit of metal at the end of the day

I'm gutted, spent time and effort setting that up, scanning, rescanning then printing out and sending - it was up on the forum here and FB too....

Sean that was a comment made by me after the response I got to my post asking for feedback on the racing - have a look back. (Mr Tenno how do you 'multi-quote' on here?)

Darren Sloan - you met my Cousin and his wife on the campsite then.

Multi-quote - you copy and paste each quote, can use a word doc to list them all before copying over the final tally.

Or do what I've just done, open another window to this forum and click 'reply' - it appears on the same reply post you've already started - no need to copy and paste

Guys, any comments on the racing? Favourite cars, vantage points or were you too busy socialising?

Last bit of pedantry then : you've assumed from the lack of response that

Most people haven't read or reacted to your post.
People can't be bothered or don't want to reply.

Maybe we ALL just added to the carnival, suggesting that the racing is perhaps secondary (?)

Overall Rob, one can only see a small portion of the circuit where overtaking is limited, there aren't the multitude of big screens as per the June 24hrs nor the onboard telemetry in order to follow a car's instant progress and after each race, I haven't yet found where to even get hold of the results. Each race lasts 'only' 45 minutes which for most is plenty as the sensations of driving flat out at various parts of the track, looking in front for slower traffic, behind for faster must be very tiring. Remember that in plateau 6, there evolution of the cars between 1972 and 1981 represents the largest improvements therefore the differences in speed are greatly increased.....which only goes to prove how well Rob C did using the performance index and placing 10th.

NB : in the eligibility list, the Datsun 240Z is quoted as : DATSUN - 240Z (1975/76)

Check against other cars and one'll see that this doesn't refer to the manufacturing date but the year (s) of the car's Le Mans participation. I'm happy to see them confirm the entry for both years as a 240 and not a 260. Needless to say, this disgruntled some 260Z owners over here hoping to capitalise on their car's increased value for being eligible for the LMClassic - there's always a money angle.....

If I was Rob Crofton I'd probably just get on with my racing and avoid coming on here.

Finally Rob, if I were you, I'd be encouraging ALL racers to come on here because yes, it is a place of banter, exchanges and one takes the rough with the smooth but you never leave here empty-headed - always something to learn, some nex ideas/angles to look at and perhaps someone to consult off-forum.

I learn everyday.

Why ALL racers ? Well, perhaps the club could index a list of active racers, where and when racing for Z fans to follow and communicate their resultats to the press with the aim of continued marque promotion....at least that is what Club Datsun-France has put in place since two months and we're busy compiling a list with the driver's details, car photos, participations, achievements and you can confirm that with Rob C who was contacted before the Classic.

Vive the forum....but don't take it and life too seriously - good luck with 'your' match today and think of 'us' tomorrow.

Think your right in saying the racing is secondary,it’s being there and the drive down there in our old Datsuns that’s part of it,it’s an occasion to be enjoyed, although I had a few issues regarding exhaust and spoiler damage as well as windscreen damage the Zed never let us down,Cant say we would’ve been able to fix a modern day car the way we did with same problems
