Le Mans Classic 2010

Firstly - Thanks Sean, my passes arrived today. Beers tokens going in the boot on Thursday. Remind me again, what campsite are they being delivered to?
Also - where do I go on the Day?

Secondly - my own tips after many years trying to avoid Le Gendarmes.
Dont go over 116MPH (I Think it works out to) on the autoroute, at all. Big on the spot fines will ensue and possible seizure of the car will accompany it.
Assuming you have avoided the big one (see above - 750 Euro min) carry 90 Euro's in the car at all times. If you are caught that is what you will need.
Ensure the cars documents are correct and in the car cos that is another tut tut !
Be very nice to the authorities - it can help!
Do Not speed until you have left the village and waited for the speed change signs.
Always look for feet pacing up and down behind trees and parked cars, it is surprising how often this has saved me!
Always STOP at a stop sign, even if you can see it is clear for 10 miles...
And of course the obvious - DO NOT carry a radar detector.
And dont rush to catch the ferry on the way back - if you need to do more than 90 mph for the last 10 KM to make it - they will be there to make sure you dont get it!
Forgive me if I am preaching to the experts, but I have seen so many fall due to the basic rules.
Hope to see you all over the weekend- Excited now! :driving::driving::driving::driving:

Not over 50 km/h over the limit which is 110 mph !

Unless you know the m-way off by heart and know where to burn it..........;)

John,

you got the email with the plan and programme so you know where we'll be camping and where the stand is.

Mmmmm - dont think I did, or if I did I cant find it........
As far as I can make out the Stand will be near the esses and Tetre Rouge, and that is where I need to be for the gathering at about 9.15?

Storms forecast for Saturday :

Prévisions météorologiques sur dix jours pour Le Mans, Sarthe (72100)

helmets not obigatory for the 'parade' laps and think about bringing portable camping chairs and a small back-bag for water, munchies etc ! Cap or hat for head, sun-cream - it's gonna be hot and shade is not so evident !
Don't forget to slap the cream on back of neck, ears and back of legs, especially behind the knees and tops of calf muscles.

Sorry to sound like Mum but I've been there, done that already at Le Mans - quite often a breeze which is deceptive like at the beach - you don't realise until it's too late that you've been broiled and THAT will ruin your weekend AND trip home !

It wasn't forecast for rain and it didn't rain at Le Mans last year, but I really wish I'd taken an umbrella with me; the cap just wasn't enough when sitting to watch the racing in the baking sun.

Well I gave my 240 a clean and polish today (last time was Le Mans Classic 2008!) and she's looking good considering the abuse she gets.

Matt is co-driver with John Palmer.

We only sorted out the (tunnell) crossing once we knew for certain which cars were going.

4 more sleeps :)........

You're down Friday afternoon - right ?

Open question to all of you - if anyone fancies giving me a hand to sort out the stand (assuming that we can enter the Bugatti circuit, it would be appreciated - three banners and metal pickets to erect and a gazebo and to nail it all down ! Probably a good half hours' worth.

Sean you've gone from rain to storms to red hot

Anyway I hope it's dry and bright but slightly overcast, with a light breeze. Two lovely girls need somewhere to sleep for the weekend and you have the beer in the chiller and the steak on the BBQ

You miss the point Rob - here, a rain storm doesn't have to be cold....and directly afterwards, it's just as muggy as before !

I've just stocked in the fridge 10 bottles of bubbly and 5 litres of aperitif - 10 litres of red will be present. A modicum of beer (small bottles) and you guys'll have to provide the rest !

Oh yes, and one bottle of water to help wash our teeth - other can use Ricard !

What girls ? Don't tell my wife - she's coming too................did I just say that ?

It's not that I don't think the car will make it but I thought I'd better knock something up, just in case.
