The MN47 and N47 versions tend to get a reasonable amount of attention on the US forums because they were plentiful there, courtesy of the Maximas and 280Zs (once the N42 heads were replaced by the N47s on US L28s for emissions reasons). Undoubtedly the Maxima version has a degree of appeal from a performance perspective due to the closed design, but it’s potential is always going to be hampered by the inability to do any flow work on the exhaust side due to the liners. And ripping them out is generally viewed as a non-starter. Those of us outside the US didn’t have to deal with the emissions compromised designs, and thus have more N42s and P90s to work with.

A more interesting one to grab if you find one IMO is the L24e version of the E88. That has closed chambers and square exhaust ports with no liners. Put some L28 seats in and port accordingly and job jobbed for a sporty head.

Im also a fan of the idea of going wild on the L20 head, the E30. 39cc closed chambers as standard, just with little ports and seats. So, lots of material to hog out and bigger seats needed, but nothing much needed on the chambers. I have two in the parts pile to play with...

Oh choices!
I’m looking for an engine basically. If this isn’t a good base, will keep looking. Jon bills one I fancied last year but wasn’t in a position to buy, or rather I was, but my wife wasn’t. Would like something of that ilk. would really like to stay with L24

Its not a bad base, the head chamber shape and size is good, but as Richie says, work on the exhaust ports is limited. It depends on what your engine build goals are. What are you looking to get out of it?

Plans were always around a 2.4. Port matching, Flow better, fruity cams. Basically not far off what your engine was. I know I could go for a 2.8 but something about sticking with original and making it better than factory if that makes sense

Is this anyone in the club? Or anyone have any comment in the seller/engine?
I’m looking for a spare engine to work on or a good breathed on L24

So a few days on now and getting closer to where i want to go to.
Temporary engine is being sought, ideally one which requires as little/no work.
My understanding is the exhuast port on this N47 is round not square which means my nice Zstory manifold wont fit... is that correct?

Thanks to all who have helped me on PMs. membership paid for itself on this alone¬!

failing that...

There is another ebay engine + autobox, price is a bit on the high side imho.

But on the pics there is a heap of gubbings between carbs and rocker i have no idea what they are... guessing it is from a US car and thats maybe emmissions gubbins?

As long as the exhaust manifold is larger than the shape it covers, it’ll work fine.

What he said !

There will need to be some porting executed on the headers' flange to match the round head ports but there's plenty of 'meat' on the header flange to do so and it'll perform better than any round-ported header you can find !
