Irrespective of the Samuri 'thing' I feel that car is in 'no man's land'. It's not a race car, a rally car or a road car.

Any "deliberate confusion" around the car has definitely been about sexing up the dossier. As I said earlier, this is the original in-joke 'Letter From Spike' car. The 'Samuri' involvement was down a telephone line. The only hard part a used 'Spike' head.

I saw it being rebuilt! The starting point was - to all intents and purposes - a standard road car. It didn't look anything like it does now.

It is the definition of a 'Tribute' car.

As I said, Whale's intro to the car was pure Anderson/Lee hype..!

Yes, you're due a Whoosh Parrot. Strato-value 280Zs are from Sean's too-much-cheese-before-bedtime style recent posts.

Hyping 280Z values is the next stage of the business plan.

I'm not sure what a Whoosh Parrot is...? Is it like a Norwegian Blue...?

Stunning!

The trend is upwards for a good, late 5spd, ......call it $23k plus transport, vat and customs= £25k. Change the bumpers, suspension, upgrade the front brakes, clutch, flywheel, diff and whilst it's all out powder paint and the Axel's etc. Replace wheels, tyres, exhaust, seats, euro (sic) carpet, dash, service car throughout, body work front and rear + paint with bumper work, skillard front grille, klearz smoke lenses, maybe metal-rimmed light covers, new door mirrors, headlights, wing repeaters, euro rear lights, new front spoiler, wipers, arms, Nardi steering wheel and shift knob.....so add £15k on top = £40k and without a calculator.....that hard to anderstand or accept?

Sorry, what?

You've just written out a recipe for a car that would have (you say...) cost you 40k GBP.

Are you saying that this theoretical car would then be 'worth' 40k GBP?

...that hard to anderstand or accept?

Both.

Alan and Sean, this Thread is about a specific car please don't continue another 'debate'.

I think James planned it as a road car which would also be fun in a track day type scenario. It is - as far as I am aware - still fully road legal, should (still) be perfectly tractable and comfortable enough for a relatively long journey.

It's not far off the spec I used to use for daily commuting (in central London) and the occasional track day/fast road run.

Yes, over here. An HLS30 with stock LHD parts, no mods from factory spec eg dash, pedal box, bulkhead.....

The UK is a micro-market and perhaps not even a black pearl or Zzap 'limited edition' would commande a special price so whilst there are plenty of offers, not being available in RHD might always be detrimental in price .....but is that the case for Citroen SMs, BMW E36 M3s and Audi Quattros, all only available in LHD formats?

Discussing 'worth' is always going to be subjective and I'm not on a crusade to boost values within the UK. Not looking to sell and flip for a profit either.
For insurance purposes, I merely want the car insured at it's replacement cost.

Sorry Rob, mails crossed......possible please to create a different thread?

It's not to argue, I feel it's a useful discussion and seriously, I believe most of you undervalue your cars for insurance agreed values.....could prove very disappointing in the case of theft or serious accident.
