Cheers, the garage is a strange shape, only 10ft wide but 33ft long Seems wider when the cars on its side!

I'm pleased with the shell, I do now think there's no such thing as a rust free 240z.

Holy thread revival batman.

I've had to swallow a big pill and sell this.





Which was one of 600ish worldwide and the only one with less than 1000miles worldwide and the best for sale in Europe.

You can tell it was a wrench. However its gone/going to a very good home with someone who really appreciates it.

What it does mean for this thread is that I should be able to get it painted and rolling

I've been collecting bits when money allows so I should be able to build it 'period modified'.

I've spent a couple more hours tonight getting the last bits of underseal off. 2 points really:

1st - I'm glad it had it applied as it seemed to do the job, I wonder if there are totally rust free original cars out there, this one looked 100% till the bitumen sound proofing and underseal came off.

2nd - I wish I had only done this in the winter as with it beign a little bit colder today it was coming off much easier than when its warm(when the other was done).

I've got some pics to show the extent of the horror, I've marked it up in white tape...




Worse bits are the doglegs, well they wouldn't have been if they hadn't had an 'American' repair. which means smack it in with a ball hammer and then smooth over with 23mm of bondo.

This one i've cut off already...



This is the one that would have repaired nicely if they didn't have acess to a hammer and bondo.



So now its all naked the extent of bodywork is

Marked holes in the floor
2x dog leg
2x lower rear inner wing
2x replacement floor rails(misguided jacking/supporting of the car, they're solid just knackered).

More shocking news today. I've been working on the car and have made some progress.

Got my floors straight and foor rails fitted. I've gone 'over length' for no reason other than the rails were long enough, it looks neat, all jacking damage has been sorted


I've been a little anal and zinc primed/painted the inside of the rails and floor where it covers, maybe not needed but it stops them rotting from the inside out.




Both rails are now fitted.


Also after trying a few places I've found the right colour orange, its made using PPG paint which i've been told is very good quality.





Also I've ordered a new safety devices roll hoop for the rear. Simply because I like how they look and I'm shallow.

Maybe it would be an idea to drill a drainhole towards the rear end of the new framerails though, water will inevitably get in there even if just from condensation - plus there are gaps around the compression rod mount cup thing that will let moisture in if you go through a puddle.

My plan is to put one in about 1ft back from the front and one at the rear, I think they had one at the front as standard?

You're right about another thing though, having a bit of cash and getting bits done really does help, I've done more in the past 2 weeks than since I've had it(excluding stripping it). I'm just excited about the possibility/thought of having it in paint then getting it rolling etc. Also a little worries about where to start as it will be 100% bare and will still take ages to build up properly.

I'm totally with you on painting the insides of the rails, it's always best to do it right, do it once!

Good to see progress Jason. How have you welded the rails to the floor? It looks like a few MIG welds and also spot welds but it doesn't look strong at the back.

When I did mine I seam welded with gas lying upside down under the floor
