Its arrived V2.0 :)

Looking good franky. Believe it or not, this is the enjoyable bit although it doesn't seem like it at times. It's all downhill from here on in (in a nice way)!

What is the story on the first car - is there a thread somewhere I can read from years ago?

Thanks, I've actually just been reading though the thread. there's even points where Rob and I agree :)

I'm not sure if its here. I had to have the Mods remove it at the time to help make sure I got my money back. Bascially a 1973 car with a june 1970 chassis number.

I'm looking forward to this part/dreading this part. Basically my wallet doesn't match my expectations.

I know you've set yourself a rough date to finish but no hurry really is there? Although from looking back, it's been away a loooooong time, so I can understand you wanting to get it done asap.

Shame photobucket did what it did - I can't see the early pic but will go back for a read of the stuff from years ago, if nothing else.

I've got the pics so will fix. Time goes fast. since I've bought the car, i've had two children, moved 250 miles, been made redundant, had a few work changes, lots of ups and downs. Had to sell my whole bike collection that I had, given what parts I could away to members and made a couple of very good friends though this forum.

Rome wasn't made in a day.

Family is more important though. On the flip side, the original car would have been quite a bit more today. I've basically got most bits I want now, just the time which I plan to enjoy taking not rush making.

ETA

This was the 'hooky' one.

this car is this one

I've been through the thread now and I moaned about photobucket on p9 (in 2016) and I think you did a couple of old pics of the car in silver then as well, so thanks.

Coming along really well and it's been a long drawn out affair re-reading it all. Nearly there now though ...

They all take along time to do half properly!

Makes for a good read though

Awesome to now see this finally coming together, really does look pukka and in such a beautiful colour! Following with great interest :)

Didn't realise you also dabbled with bikes as well, too many toys to play with!

Thanks. It is the second best colour, behind safari gold. By the times this is done there will be 100’s of them about though. I’m playing the long game.

Yes bikes.... a fun way to go fast as you have to think about it. I like ‘odd ball’ stuff though

I've had a few big bikes in the past too - way too old and sensible now to do some of the things we all did when younger - and if I had one it would just collect as much dust as the Z does. 918 is by far the most popular colour for S30 restorations I am sure.

I can foresee the scene in 5 years time when you rock up to a classic car show and there will be a line of 918 - s30's all parked up in a row.EXTRA:D

That accolade presently belongs to the Subaru wrx lads with their 555 blue\ gold wheels cars....:)

You mean like all The blue ones now . When I decided to go orange there wasn’t another one. I think it’ll change in waves.

Give it a year or so and it'll have changed again ;) You say that, however I've rarely seen another 918 Z at a UK show or on the road.... Mine and Tony's are the only ones we've had together, and I attend alot of of the national events. Even when people finish them the majority just hide in the garage rather than being used and enjoyed.

I'll have to take your word for it, still not managed to get my license yet. Just like cars, the exclusive oddballs are always the most interesting :)

It costs a lot of money to get your bike licence now I believe. Back in 1980 when I passed mine, you literally rode in a square along some roads while the guy stood in a shop doorway with a clipboard. As long as you looked over your shoulder when turning right - you got the okay ... at least I did, back then. Goodbye to the L-plate wrapped round the front fork!

I'm budgetting about £1000 for my full A license all being well Mike, two modules to complete and theory test.

Well I'm ready to go, where are the rest of you.... :driving:

Hey Mike, I passed my motorbike test in 1968 and later that year I was able to drive a Reliant 3 wheeler on that Licence. Not 1 hour of training for either and the tests just cost me the actual test fee on the day! Amazing really but that's how things were.

The worlds slowest car build has had some progress.

1st off, its off its wooden dolly, the one that was suppose to be for 3 months, lasted 6.5 years. I put it on the suspension mounting points so couldn't bolt anything to it.

I was fortunate enough to have tracked down all the correct moustache bar parts, with a little help.

Had to make a former to make the ends correct.

Subaru 4.44 plated r180. Had it apart and checked bearings and wipe pattern, all perfect. I'd like to use bolts instead of the studs though for the rear mounts, can't see why not?

All the rear end is now in place(chassis stuff). Rear suspension is now on.

I've just gone for new rubber bushings everywhere.

I need to check with with Ad at VA motorsport exactly how the suspension tops go together in the car, its intrax suspension with VA's road/rally topmounts. Theres little adapters/spacers. I can't work out if they go on the underside or inside.

CauToU7.jpg

Nothing is torqued down yet, i've ordered a few replacement bolts for ones i've lost.

I've got to do a bit of stonechip on the front rails under the engine. Not looking forward to that.

Knackered steering rack doesn't please me.

That steering rack is fixable surely?
