Italian style, Japanese influence

It’s the wheel, colour, general feel.

It’s not Italian in feel to me.

‘Umami’ - being subjective, not always quantifiable, not something that 100% exists?

How about Califonian in feel ?

Wheel- empi 8 spokes
Colour- pastel vivid shades
Stance - lowered
Bodywork- delete bumpers, relocate number plates

^ all above been done to the Beettle since 60's :p

Had the Alfa been given the Bozo treatment, then I would have agreed that it feels Japanese...

You could well be right. We could both be right. I’d say 50.1% in my favour though:hurray:

That is a factory colour btw, Giallo Ochre from memory.
Just that like Ferrari's, 95% of Alfa's seem to be red probably as it suits the cars so well.

I have a stepnose 65 Sprint GT to restore shortly and will also be keeping it red despite the temptation to go off piste. I have a feeling this car will test my loyalty to the Z when completed so just as well it is behind a South African 240Z in the queue.

I used to have a 1750 GTV. It had been resprayed Ford Daytona yellow for some reason. I was working evenings at the time and to get out of the works you had to drive / walk (depending on if you had a car or not - we were all young lads) down a longish road between the buildings and out through a motorised roller shutter door.

Tradition was...the boys who came on the bus had to run the length of the road while the drivers (my team) tried their best to catch them and run them over, usual teenager stuff

One winter’s night I had my eye on Shift Leader Phil Sercombe as he foolishly tried to outrun my Weber-fuelled Alfa. Sadly for me he was quite fast and as the roller shutter was up, he escaped his fate. Just. I came to a halt half way though the exit tunnel. In the meantime Phil had pressed the “down” button on the door on his way out.

Door on its way down, slap it into reverse to escape and...cold Weber-fed engine farted and stopped. Restarted but by then it was too late and 3 ton of roller door came to a grinding stop on the top of my front wings. More Daytona yellow paint please! Luckily the wings had a raised profile sort of a ridge which took the impact so no damage to the bonnet.
Come paint time, I found I could push my finger through the soggy cardboard which had been used to repair the windscreen scuttle so I thought it was time to move it on.

Bad news....sold it for £350. Good news...bought my first Z with the cash!
