Is this a real ZG? £8K lots of bids 5 days to go

When you register a car in the UK you need the original title, without that it gets hard is I think the question

Seeing as a 'car' isn't going to leave Japan as a viable, registerable 'car' without supporting identity documents (and expressly an authorised translation of the Japanese ownership document) that seems academic in this case. The seller states that the car has no papers. It's a big hassle for a new Japanese owner, let alone a buyer outside Japan who wants to export it and register it legally - and accurately - in another first world country.

I can't believe that was the question. It must be something else.

I don't think theres anything positive in this auction.

A ZG is what, 50-75k in Japan?

Genuine HS30-H models are commanding 12 million to 18 million JPY in private sale these days, so you're looking at around 80k GBP for one towards the lower end of the market. Many have been modified a lot over the years, so they need to be viewed very carefully on a case-by-case basis.

Gulp.

I like feeling poor.

Getting hold of its documentation/title..?

It will be a matter of getting new documentation for it, and that will be affected by the circumstances under which it lost its original identity. Read between those lines.

I've tried to hint at the possibilities for the true situation here but half of my posts have been deleted, throwing out the baby with the bath water. There's plenty 'not right' about the car which is visible from the few photos provided by the vendor. The wider point is that there will be plenty of people in Japan who do know what this car actually is and who will be able to rectify the situation, and that it is very likely the vendor knows the true situation and is not letting on (and can't, because it would blow the gaff).

If anyone from outside Japan thinks they can get involved in it all and come out ahead then they are kidding both themselves and anyone else who believes them. Like I said before, "Here Be Dragons".

Thanks, I missed some of the deleted posts perhaps...?

I guess then that the reason it has had so many bids is that those in Japan in the know might want to buy a car that looks similar to a real ZG at a fraction of the cost of the real thing...?

It will be attracting bids because - even if it isn't a genuine Fairlady 240ZG - it will be an HS30-S Fairlady 240Z-S or HS30 Fairlady 240Z-L, and that gives it a default value.

It's far easier to get correct replacement paperwork for an HS30-S or HS30 than for an HS30-H, so that's a plus and the serious bidders will be au fait with the situation.
