is it the body control module

hi guys

i have a 2005 UK spec 350z roadster.
it had sustained some water damage to the interior.
everything is in good working order apart from 2 things:

1/ the airbag light is on. if been tols the sensor under the seat needs checking.

2/ the external lights front and back + wipers dont work, however the washers on the wipers are working fine and all the external lights work fine if i disconnect the brown clip from the body control module. i suspect the car needs a new body control module.

does any one have any ideas on how to fix those 2 issues.

your advice is much appreciated

Hi - I just read your other post about a breakers and this has answered my question!

It does sound like the BCM but I think I am right in saying that you can't just slap another one in as you will need to get it coded to the car.

Was the airbag sensor a guess or have you had a fault code reader put on the car? I know of several other people who have just had a reset and the 'fault' never came back. Obviously if you've had water damage maybe this isn't the answer in your case.

I can probably ask some questions for you in you like. I'm in Ashford BTW - so not a million miles away :)

thanks paul

i ran through the IPDM test and it worked fine so the problem went down to the BCM or the ground harness.
i then visualy inspected the harness after stripping the car's interior and tested the parts i could get to and they were fine as well which made it more of a clear BCM issue. the airbag light was also contineously on as well.

then i took it to the local dealer and they stuck there consoule on the car and surprise surprise the technician is totally hooked on a BCM fault.

now i am on the hunt for a new BCM which as you said will have to be coded.

interestingly the airbag light turned off since so fingers crossed it doesn't need an air bag sensor.

the dealer is asking for about £750 for the BCM job and will take them anything between 3 to 6 weeks to get the part which feels like years to me.

any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

I'm not sure if that's a good price or not for the BCM. TBH, it probably is.

I guess you might be able to source a new one cheaper and just get them to recode. I don't know if a non-Nissan place could recode it for you.

You might want to ask around. Maybe try someone like JDM Performance for a new BCM and TDI at Lakeside might be able to fit it - I'm guess here but it's worth a try.

Let us know how it goes.
