Is £849 a good price for BC Coilovers now?

I read recently BC pushed a price increase in one of their US resellers, which led to said reseller switching brands. I'm not entirely surprised given the cost of materials and transport currently.

Looking at driftworks as an example, the price of them has definitely gone up.

I'd say that price is good as long as the company is reputable

Yeah to be honest I expected them to have gone up a lot more than that, and they're much more from every other retailer I can find.. so I've bitten the bullet! That's my first Datsun part ordered :)

That's about what they were price-wise historically - so worth grabbing in today's inflationary world...

Notably, there are savings to be had though on that setup - if you shop around for the alternative or non-brand versions of it. Forum member Chappers got some for his 280Z for 600-and-something quid I think. Obviously made in the same factory as the BC, identical other than different colour scheme.

Ah, too late I've snapped them up! Ah well.

Don’t worry about it. People will always gravitate towards the BC version as it is the most well-known and backed by a big brand. I’ve got a set for the project car. Although the front struts I have for the Celica -custom items from Japan using KYB adjustable inserts - opened my eyes to possible Z adaptations of the same units. Something I will be experimenting with further down the line.

Turns out it was too good to be true! The retailer just called me to say sorry but BC put their prices up very recently and he's updated 100s of prices on the website but somehow missed this one. Said retail price is £1049 and best he can do is 10% off which is £949. I said well that's the price you advertised them for and he's said sorry, he just can't do it, so either full refund or I have to pay the extra. Said I'd think about it.

@Chappers where did you get your BC-a-like coilovers from? Or does anyone else know what they're called?

Hi,
I bought Yellowspeed coilovers from Tegiwa Imports Ltd in Stoke. I got a really good Black Friday deal of £697 inc VAT. I just had a look on their site and they are currently £900. The sales chap is Richard and he has a set on his own 240Z.
I cannot report on how they are on the car because I have not fitted them yet.
I can post some photos if you want.

Thanks! Is there a model number too? Or should I just Google "yellowspeed coilovers 280z"?
By the way, can someone tell me, am I looking for 55mm wide struts on all 4 corners for the 280z?

Hi,
I have a 280Z as well but it is the 55mm front and rear strut size set even though it is referenced for a 240Z.
I was looking at id-workz as well but the Tegiwa deal was better at the time.

Brilliant thanks mate! How did you find out they are the same as BCs by the way?

I bought BC Coilovers for around £875 from AutoExtreme during a Black Friday event. I have zero complaints with them, they're really good quality for the money. Wayne at AutoExtreme is also a super good guy to talk to, and it happens he is usually the cheapest too

Yeah he was a nice guy and it felt like an honest mistake.

Hi, sorry to dig up an old thread. How did the Yellowspeed coilovers treat you? I've recently acquired a 240Z with the harshest coilovers known to man and looking to upgrade to either new coilovers or lowering springs / struts. Cheers

What brand are they out of interest? I wonder what the spring rates are 🤔
