Insurance for modified/engine swap cars

Just wondered if anyone out there has experience of insuring a heavily modified car, or specifically one with an engine swap (V8 etc.) Is there any trouble and how pricey is it??

Cheers all!

Last year I tried to get a cheaper quote for agreed value insurance on my 280ZX, and as soon as I told them that the modifications included a Janspeed turbo, adjustable springs, 8x15 front and 10.5x15 rear wheels and a full Kaminari body kit and I lived in Greater London and it was parked on the drive all of the companies I aproached said they could not cover me. Some said it was because it was not garaged and was in a high risk area others said they could not cover a car with that many mods on it. so have had to stay with Livingstones and they charge me £550 approx for agreed value and 5000 miles but the access is quite high. It would be nice if other members gave some details of thier insurance companies as I'm sure there are some good deals around and we couldcompile a list of companies for new members to aproach

I've just received my renewal from Livingstones for my 300ZX TT. It went up from £680 last year to £1200 this year. This is for fully comp unlimited mileage myself and wife. AON gave me cover for £678 for 5000 miles. Also got renewal from AON for agreed value 240Z, 260Z, 180B SSS and 100A. Renewal was £150 total, up from £110 last year.

Livingstones refused to quote a mate for his 300ZX Turbo Z31. He got cover with AON for £237.

Living in N.I. can be a problem because of our different legal system.

Andrew.

Gets odder and odder AON are one of the companies who said they could not cover my car seems to be a case of what day and who you speak to at a company on wether they insure you

My Zed is insured with AON. It costs me more to tax the damn thing for a year than it does to insure it. Mind you, my mod's are restricted to the chassis at present. It will be interesting to see what happens when I fit my cylinder head, cam and big carbs this summer.
Of course, postcode is a BIG factor with these insurance companies. I noticed the difference when I emigrated from Essex to Hertfordshire last year. We're posh up here you see, unlike you West of London scumbags ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!

Hi,
When my wife tried AON a month ago, they would insure a Z31 Turbo for a very reasonable amount....However, last week they had changed their tune and wouldn't provide cover at all!Yet our personal details remain exactly the same.
If you get a good quote it's best to take it up straight away, as a few days later you might be quoted a vastly different sum!

p.s. give 'Firebond' a try.

Insurance these days is very competitive & one of the best ways to find a decent quote is to use a mag say fast car or max power for modified cars & a classic car mag for normal older cars.This may seem obvious but some people do not by mags?.Alot will depend on where you live & where the car is kept etc & if it is a 2nd car this can be alot better if this is the case as you can reduce the mileage which reduces the cost ,COMPANIES that seem to be ok at moment are;
TESCO , ADVANTAGE INS ,GREENLIGHT , GOTT & WYNNE ADMIRAL ETC

One company I got a quote from (4youngdrivers.com, suposed to be for young drivers with performance cars) quoted me £8500 third party only!!!
I thought I would see how much for fully comp - £2500
work that one out!!!!!
needless to say they did not get my business
