I've not found a UK equivalent.

Could someone make these "locally"? Group buy perhaps?

Crazy right. I hunted all over the web, and this was the only one I could find. Even the sets didn’t have the right 17mm fit.

There is. It’s the same plug on the side of the gearbox too. I had to order mine from Japan - £40 - £50 landed in the UK. Let’s see if I can find my old eBay link.

Why not send him yours? I promise he'll send it back.........................

The last time the car was MOT'd, i got the guy to try both filler plugs, and they came loose with a hefty yank on a large open ended spanner ;)

That was a couple of years ago, they're probably seized solid now knowing my luck!

The manufacturer in Japan suggests a RRP of £17.50. Obviously postage and import taxes on top.

Yep, if it was up on a lift and I had access to the correct tools I'm sure it would be a piece of cake.

I hope you get the thing undone somehow...

So I have a question - when refitting said plug, other than overtightening it, what else can be done to help remove it later? Would it be a good or bad idea to use a little smear of copper slip on the thread for example?

I had that same thought A while back so I’m going to experiment with PTFE tape.

its a double square, there are 8 points. its analagous to 12 point vs 6 point hex socket.
Sure, but in the same way a 12 point socket is more likely damage a nut than an 6 point one, I'd rather have a square socket for the filler plug.

I’m gonna make a home made tool for this job as I have to do it soon.

Surely easy enough with a piece of steel bar, a stepper drill bit to get to 17mm, some smaller drills for corners and some elbow grease with a file? I think I can knock one up in 30 mins or so. If / when I do, I can share it with you Baz. How much of a hurry are you in?

Is this not available as a special tool from Nissan? I am guessing it would be cheaper than the Snap on one?

Mi e was a female plug and I used a 1/2 inch drive extension bar attached to a breaker bar. I then jacked the car up with a hydraulic jack, put a bottle jack under the end of the breaker bar and slowly let the hydraulic jack down. The weight of the car was used to move the plug.
