If you think F1 is tame, try rallying!

Never mind the cars and spectators just appreciate the skill and daring!

Yes 70s and 80s were my years BUT the modern cars are so fast compared to even Gp B.

I know where there is an ex works Chevette (Jimmy McRae) for sale - would love that!

Gotta have some big Cahoonies to drive that fast amongst the trees...... and mainly sideways at that!

By far the best spectator motor sport IMHO.

Wasn't the works Chevettes the HSR 2.3 litre? Or that was the closest road equivalent. I had 2 Chevettes, 1256cc...

My first two cars were Chevette's, 4 door saloon and then a 2 door hatch back, and yes HSR was 2.3, always wanted one before the Z infatuation came a knocking!

The HSR was the wide body homologation special mainly built for tarmac rallying.

Learned to drive on a 1977 4 door, bought a 1980 estate with the later lights, then a 2 door hatch to repair the prop shaft which I snapped! A mate and I drove the hatch from Southampton to Portsmouth with friends car shielding the crash damage at the rear of the hatch which wrote it off from the police.. Stripped out engine, gearbox and prop, few extra bits the took the rest to the scrappy. Made loads out of that car!

My son did Rally Finland in 2018 as a co-driver in a Fiesta R2 and I went out there for a week to support and watch - the speeds of the works cars are incredible through the trees.
The jump is on the very last stage of the rally with the finish line on top of the ramp for the jump and then markers for the crowd to see the distance travelled - massive crowd, beer tents etc, unbelievable, and for sure the best form of motorsport.DSC_6244 - Copy.JPG
