I bought a Fairly Roadster

Hi all,

I found my way into Datsun / Nissan fandom through Z31s but I've always wanted a Fairly Roadster. I finally purchased one a couple of weeks ago. She needs a full resto but I'm so happy to finally have one.

I won't do anything too sacrilegious to it but it won't be returning to factory spec, not least due to the difficulty sourcing parts.

This purchase does likely mean that I'll have to sell my Z but I hope that I can still be an honorary member of the club.

I like these. There was a few a spa last year. All with different engines. Lots of Jap 4 pots to choose from.

Cool choice. I would have thought you should be able to source most bits in the States?

I've been a fan of these for a while now, shame there's not more over here in the UK. I can imagine your woes with obtaining parts, seems like the prime choice to rest mod and bring a bit more up to date with better parts availability.

I look forward to seeing further updates

But OEM restorations will be VERY expensive !

Very cool, congrats and as John said - I've seen some tasteful 4 cylinder conversions, one even made into a period-looking car - great.

Fairlady though !;)

Nice.. These are lovely cars.

Will be following your thread with keen interest..

I'm literally just starting my research into these, maybe a 1969 SPR311, but got no idea on chances of getting one. It's going to be the wife's car and has to be 1969. I've only seen LHD so far, but to be honest not looked in earnest yet.

How long was your search for your car?

I have owned a couple of these in the last year or so. All LHD models. The 1600 versions are a little sluggish and the 4 speed trans is no help.

But a SRL 2000 version with 5 speed is a downright rocket bunny. The market is fairly inexpensive as they have never really taken off in the states. 2 Liter versions can be had for $10K to 15K for nice drivers.

There are speciality restorers who get top dollar for beautiful 1967 1/2 2 liter cars around $40 to $50K range.

No it doesn't - downright ugly !

It is the feminin body-builder version of a Fair lady....just as those who add on 'ZG' arches bastardise a great original shape .:p

In face, it looks about as attractive as a 614/6 Porsche in Grp IV format.
