How strong is a R180?

Alan can correct me but I believe he said that the Z which ran at Le Mans in '75 and '76, previously for two (?) years in the Springbok series and previously in Japanese circuit racing.....always used an R180.

John, being a practical guy why don't you try your R180.

Theory is ok for new items but nobody really knows how your secondhand diff will cope with your hybrid 'set-up' and your driving style.

I have heard pros/cons comment on the R180/200 diffs just like the 225/240 clutches.

Why not ? I'm gonna try one in mine once I find time to machine up the drive shafts.

I read lots about the ozziez 's running a lot of power through the them, so worth a try it reckon

Thats what i've read, so r160 4.11 plated LSD's are less than £200! Thats why I mentioned it. Lightweight also.

Is the r160 spline the same as the Scooby r180?

No unfortunately that's why i need to do some machining, they are the the same as the Datsun diff though, but its not simply plug n play as you need the proper Subaru LSD inner drive shafts with a step to make the LSD work,

Lots of r160 lsds running a lot of torque without issue. R160 lsd’s are cheap also.

I have experience of H165 - 165mm ( live axles) that adorned many of the classic Nissan's.
The open diffs have coped with 200bhp and 225lb\ft torque in my cars. Never had a LSD as they are extremely rare.
Others have complained that they snap easily if driven "hard" . By hard I mean drifting and burnouts. For fast road use and sensible launches, the H165 was great and alot lighter than its bigger brother, the H190.

So as a comparator, I reckon the R160 should be OK for a fast road L gata set up.

I don't think R160 is a bolt-on solution because the diff seems narrower so rework of half shaft looks mandatory at first sight

What engine are you running to produce that monstrous torque? That even eclipses my 340lbft Diesel which I thought was pretty punchy!
RB26.

The guys do have a point though, open R200's are not as strong, mine is upgraded with an OS Giken Superlock CLSD.
