Hitachi v "Original" SUs

Just reading through this thread and considering the HS6 carbs but wondering whether there is anything that needs to be done to linkage etc to make them fit or is it a case of just bolting on the bodies and using the linkage from the Hitachi SUs?.

Interested to hear from anyone that has HS6 carbs fitted on how they did it and how they run.

I believe as a minimum, you would have to fit/weld the lower throttle rod mounting point onto the balance bar (not sure what its called)
that links the two carb throttle butterflies First two images.
And possibly have to modify the choke operation, pictures are of my 2" HS8 carbs on the car, but HS6 identical i believe bar the size :)

su supply a bar (if i remember correcectly 5/16) with the relevant fittings and it simply hooks up to the datsun link bar.

Thanks for the pics Toopy. What's with all the cobwebs? It needs a run!:driving:

........ otherwise you wont open the throttle fully when you floor it.

 Not 'if' but 'when'! You obvoiusly know I have a lead right foot!!:D

Give ZT a call and ask about the postage details. I think they mark them as repaired goods with a nominal value so not a huge amount of import duties.

Still talking £800-900 all factoring in the core charge, which is still too steep for me at the moment. Would love to have a set though & drooling over the thought :drool:but i am too impatient to save up for them.:(

no welding just an 8mm nut and bolt that pinches the lever onto the shaft.
only thing i added was to custom make a brass linkage so i could split the bar and remove it without the need to remove a carburettor.
the datsun linkage clips right onto the SU ball joint, the only issue was the position of the ball was to far up the lever so i moved it down by drilling a new hole in the lever arm.
now when the pedal is to the metal the throttle is actually open wide and not 2/3s:D

the only downside to this setup is adjusting the throttle between both carbs is literally undoing a bolt and pushing the stop against the throttle arm and then clamping it up.
it works but isn't as precise as the screw adjustment setup on the datsun linkage.

The guy who bought my blue 240Z recently keeps in touch. Yesterday he had it on a rolling road to check the tuning. I'd dismantled the carbs over the winter, cleaned them and adjusted them etc . Also it's difficult to get the ign timing 'spot-on' by trial and error on the road.

Anyway his comment was:

Hi Rob, Well she sure impressed the rollers Man,
3 power runs 2 up 5000 rpm and 1 to 6000 showing 211bhp with 210lbs of torque

Bear in mind that's a modified (DJ) 2.8 on 'standard' 240Z carbs i.e. Hitachi 1 3/4".
