Hi all,

Thought I would get around to finally making an introduction and say hi.

I bought ray100s car just over a year ago, blasted around in it for a few months and then decided to do a full bare metal restoration. Its been stripped and acid dipped.

Just received 2 rear quarters, two front inner wings and radiator panels from the states so the body restoration can start properly next week.

Plans are to make it as good as I can with the budget I have (which isn't massive) and also go down the stroker route. Thought I would be going RB but that L series engine is a cracker and just love it so it is definitely staying! Theme is doings things right and only once, performance and handling enhancements on standard body rather than wide arches (as cool as they look!) and there certainly wont be any 'stance' or 'stretch'!

Already spoke to a few very helpful people on here so big thanks to them for all the help and advice (they know who they are), I think its going to be handy being 20 minutes away from Star Motorsport!

There is a FB page for the build which is here:

https://www.facebook.com/ryans240z (feel free to like the page!)

I will be keeping this updated to save repeating things in a few places and hope to get along to a few shows.

Look forward to seeing a few of you around. If anyone knows any history of the car please let me know, would love to know more about it (was told it used to be DJs Racecar!?)

Mods I will stick this in the rebuilds and restorations section as well, please feel free to delete whichever.

Thanks
Ryan

Car looking good! Good luck - and don't do the wide wheel arches - they spoil the car's beautiful lines (in my opinion of course)..

I agree, whilst I can appreciate them, they wont be a feature on my car.

a chap called colin dixon used to own it before ray lives in st annes lancs

Ray did mention Colin, I went to view it at Tatton park 2013, it was someone there who told me that it was Dave Jarmans old race car that was made road legal and given to his (DJs) cousin. Not sure if that's true and tbh I guess it doesn't matter. I just thought if it does have racing history it might be nice to recreate how it looked. But have totally no information on it.

Looks like you have a bit of work to do there.

There is a fair bit of the work but all the panels from the US are original and whilst they were expensive I think it will make for a much nicer car. Original metal and all. But there is a fair way to go yet!

The car was bought off Dave Jarmen by Colin Dixon. I believe it was his race car, that is the information given to me by the previous owner.

Thanks, it is moving along and should be nice when finished hopefully.

Interesting. I had the same information. Is Colin Dixon still on this forum?

He's not been active here in a long time (probably still lurks though). He's up in Lytham St Annes and people like Brian & Brenda Baker (long-time Z Club members in Blackpool) I'm sure still have contact with him. You could try Facebook - he's a follower of the Z Club Facebook page.

I remember when Colin bought the car - it looked pretty much exactly like it did when you bought it, maybe a tiny bit tidier here and there, and without the blacked-out chrome etc. As an aside, I can't remember whether the Webers were added under Colin's ownership or early in Ray's. I remember seeing them brand spanking new on the car though.

Some work was also done on the car (for Colin) by Mark Warburton near me in Macclesfield (240Z owner, Cheshire Plainz member and mechanic who works on my car - whenever it involves something that is easier with a four point lifter anyway!!). Mark had to do some welding on occasion and did comment it looked like a doilie in places - as you've highlighted with the dipping! :D

Colin and I bought our cars within a month of each other in 2004. He spent lots of money on it!!! It's always looked a great car - aggressive stance, enkei wheels... The perfect combo in my opinion

Please don't add wide arches!!!

That's what I thought. They looked very nice when brand new.

BTW, strugrat, where did you get the V07 crank from, was it via Yahoo Auctions Japan or another source?

I work for a Japanese company at the moment and so had some of my colleagues in Japan keep an eye out (a few are petrolheads) but it was from Yahoo Japanese auction site. Apparently the guy I bought it off had five of them! The sale was completed by my colleague in Japan who then shipped it to me.
