Yeah, it is annoying having to be conscious about rubbing all the time. Especially on the track where your pushing to the limits.

Won’t be driving it on a track but I’d still hate to hurt the new paint on a poorly taken speed bump

Right so now I have finished sorting out a friends Z I can move forward a little with this - although house work still taking priority.

Expect updates!

I have acquired a few more bits... Including a full set of the above trumpets but they may be too long to fit in the bay depending on manifold length (so on the look out for a short runner if anyone has one?)

Some wheels:

Genuine Watanabe 15's 7.5J width and 0 offset. Always wanted Watanabe wheels but these came up for a daft price and I jumped at them.

Also picked up all the venting for the rear tailgate.

Hopefully Ill start prepping the body perhaps this weekend after having a tidy up - I am going to alter my rotisserie slightly so it makes it easier to move around as its a little too high to work on the top half but great to work on the underside.

Dan

Nice wheels. Pop them in the washer on a very hot wash, to shrink them to 14", then you can be even cooler! :)

As I couldn't get anyone to come and mobile blast the underside of the car this weekend I set up and started to do it myself... Hopefully finish it over the next weekend.

Priming up as I go along.

Good work, how long did that all take?

Only blasted under 1 rear arch and the front section so far - about an hour. Using a fine glass bead and low pressure/flow rate. Wont be doing the top panels for fear of warpage but so far haven't noticed any heat build up. The rear quarter looks blasted but it isn't - just the grey primer that was on it.

Lack of updates... But here we go. The spare wheel well had filler in and was pitted/holes pretty well after media blasting. Fortunately had a perfect one so drilled out and welded back in.

Took me forever to clean the workshop out after the mess of blasting... in fact it took me over two days … Worth it though.

Need to decide whether to stone chip now or just high build prime and paint... Suggestions? Got the underside of the car in etch ready anyway.

I etch primed mine, then stone chipped it white with some orange mixed in , then 2 part epoxied over the top off that's with orange again , or was is epoxy then stone chip ? cant remember ?

Seen people use the bed liner stuff for truck bed's , Raptor ? but seen it shrink quite a lot after time ,

Mine still looks good after a couple of years and when i got the jet wash under there before i put it in the garage for the winter jobs it came up like new ,

Can you recall what stone chip you used? Do you have any pictures of the finish? I noticed MZR seem to have a none gloss finish on their shells underside but I want it to look as clean and glossy as possible year round...

Cheers!

if you didn't use the stone chip you could get a lot smoother finish , But I felt the stone chip gives it a bit of protection from err stone chips lol

if you thin the stone chip down a bit or use a different nozzle you will get a smoother finish maybe ?

Yes thinking if I can use a 1.8 nozzle might get a decent finish. Think this is the route im going to take. I'll seem seal this week and get some of this on.

I don’t know why you wouldn’t stone chip? It’ll look minimal underneath, I went quite thick in the arches, it’s there to do a job.

Didn't have any in there from factory. Looks clean... wasn't chipped anywhere...but someone had been there before and stuck underseal on.

Looking at old pics of this it definitely didn't have any form of stone chip. It is an earlier shell though being a 70.

I've got some of the Wurth stuff to use on my daily 944. The original factory stuff on the floors is like putty and dried rock hard and is virtually inpenetrable ... moisture does get in though after 30 years as I found out recently ...

If you're not driving it in the wet often (ever) then really any stonechip will do if just to keep it looking nice under the arches.

Top work though - esp on the wheel well. All is looking good.

I'll be using raptor bed liner on mine once it's been media blasted and I'll probably paint over it with whatever colour I'm doing the body in. May not look as perfect as clean paint but I'd rather have the added protection.

There's loads of videos of long term reviews on YouTube. Used on a lot of drift and rally cars which will take a lot more abuse than ours will ever see.
