Here we go again Derricks 260z restoration

Got them other bits sitting on my window ledge,will drop them off when I'm up your way,got some seat covers for rob gaskin so intend doing them at same time,it's hard when you are in demand to please everyone

Hey Derrick, have you weighed all that underseal?

Been there and done that on an Anglia I restored but I didn't have a rotisserie and only a single garage. Grown out of those types of jobs now On the Anglia the front-end had suffered crash damage and instead of fitting a new panel the shape was reformed with filler - up to half an inch in places!

It's nice to know what's underneath and to be able to weld without fire and smoke.

Hi Rob no haven't weighed all the under seal and filler but so far had about 3 bucket full to the brim thanks for you reply will keep pics coming can't wait to get it blasted

Thought I was ready too send the shell off for blasting,but after a lot of thought decided to remove the panel under the scuttle panel so the inner bulkhead and rear of firewall could be blasted clean before welding

Heres a few pics of what i found



All the spot welds drilled out and panel reedy to be removed

Definitely the right decision to remove this panel at least it can now all be blasted clean and be free of rust and painted properly

Will be worth the effort to ensure no rust lurking also make the repairs more accessible ,
will be back soon with more update or might be a little while as i don't want to rush this resto

Nice work, you must be glad you removed that panel, would be horrible if you had problems there in a few years when the rest of the car was still perfect, best to check for rust everywhere you possibly can.

If this car is gonna be anywhere near as nicely restored as your 280zx it's gonna be a beauty.
Derrick, could I pop over some time and take some pics of the shell so I can try get a better understanding of how it's constructed and of what lays under the skin. plz

Good move Derrick. I had the same issue with my car and had too remake the air vent. It was the cause of a leak into the footwell for years before I found it.

Thank guys for all your positive feedback theres going to be a lot more stripping down like this as I want this car to be around in the next 30 years even if its not owned bye me it will still be good don't want rust creeping back from seems that have been untreated,
lots of work to come but theres no hurry just want it right

Had a great call from a trusted club member who has a solid scuttle panel and a solid bulkhead panel which i think will be fitted to this if i can work out how to do it :roll eyes:
how hard cn it be :lol: I will be getting my new floor pans soon and making new chassis
rail for under the floor just debating weather to strip the rear quarters after the blasting has been done then having them blasting internally to ensure no rust is lurking there too.I know this is going to be a major job and will need bracing before doing so .

Any advice welcome if you've done this
