Some more unpicking on donor panel acid dipping this is what you could have after a wee years

Nasty hidden trapped rust, glad its getting sorted.

 

That's what every Z is like in seams that don't get opened up. I had similar when I took the LHD bulkhead panel out of my project. If it had stayed LHD like most CA imports, that would still be festering in there, no matter what the rest of the car looked like. It's why I consider there to be no such thing as a rust-free Z.

No such thing as rust free,my car will be close but there will be areas where there’s bound to be some rust lurking in existing seams ​

 

Finally removed the donor panel I need quite a few hours work separating from the firewall and unpicking the panel under the scuttle panel
Amazed how many spot welds on the strengthening plate over the steering column mount
Now of to getting them blasted tomorrow

 

I can send you some rusty bits that I don’t want Rob

 

I love how accurate you appear to be with a spot weld removal drill! I'm definitely getting better but it is an art.

Semi-serious question as you mention Derrick: Why are there soooo many spot welds on that strengthening plate? Did they spot weld to a template or was it just free form and someone was bored on a Friday afternoon?!

 

Paid per spot weld perhaps. A little overkill but they just probably didn't want it to fall off.

 

Done a little bit of cutting today on the 260z cut out the end of the chassis rail couldn’t believe how heavy it was had a few repairs before

 

Cutting didn’t stop there

 

Also cut out part of under scuttle panel not sure of correct name for this part ,I sit waiting to be corrected

 

Started making repair section for battery tray area

 

This was cut out wasn’t rotten but I really couldn’t live with theses repairs
