After what feels like a year, actually a couple of months. We have received our 280z.

A final project for my son and I before he finishes his last year at uni and goes of to adult somewhere far away..

I bought the car as a non runner, putting body condition over anything else.

Car is complete numbers matching, non molested California car.
With everything as original, one owner.

Selected the car after scrutinizing 200 photos and asking a million questions.. is that rust? Is that body line straight.... etc... I'm sure I was his worst ever customer.

But I wanted as close to rust free as possible.
(Impossible I would say but close to)

Here are a few pictures as it arrived..

After arriving with us,

Has been put on a diet... like I should

Removed the bumpers front and rear.
Will remove the final shock once I drop the tank.

The front we are making some decisions around the look we were going for.
This front is with the new grille to make the front look neat.

I havent fully decided on bumpers and lip, Air dam etc.... will give it some serious contemplation now we can look at the front with the grille.

No hasty decisions is the key..

Cleaned injectors (accidentally ignited the carb cleaner.... oops)

Having checked electrics carefully, tapping on the posts...

Discovered there is an issue with the ignition system.

I have found the ignition relay..... well that's unlikely to work.....

So followed the relay and bypassed, while I await a new one from the US..

However, I have got what I can only explain as half of the ignition system now.

Prior to this really bypass I basically had a dead car. No ignition lights... nothing at all.. just crank.

After the bypass of both relays (in the one case) I have the seatbelt light, buzzer, coil, clock lights.

However still no EFi, fuel pump, indicators, remaining dash lights (I assume alternator).
Heater blower..

I have found the fuel and EFI relay, looks perfect and I feel it isnt this (no evidence)
Based on the other missing ignition based items

Does anyone have any ideas ??

Ps. I have a 280z 76 factory service manual on order .. but am keen to find the issue sooner.

HELP ...hahaha!!

Seems to work - for future reference you can just 'upload a file' to your post which saves messing with the media gallery

Finally finished stripping out the back end completely.

Coilovers
Hubs
Sway bar
Control arms
Moustache bar
Diff

I am so pleased the entire rear end is pretty much rust free,

One small piece around the filler cap

Will now work on the underside of the rear, cleaning and under sealing. Some por15 first.
