Headlight problems,anyone help?

Took the car out yesterday afternoon when coming back only had side lights.Fuses ok wiring all connected from what I can see!Any ideas?

First thing to do is check the switch.

Try operating it a few times to clean the contacts.

If above doesnt work, check your main beam switch on your indicator stalk. Sometimes if you nudge it slightly it can get stuck between the dip and main beam contacts and neither work leaving it on side-lights only.

Pull it towards you a couple of times to ensure it clicks properly to turn main bean on and off.

Take the column cover off and check the wiring underneath the switch. I occasionally have a problem with a wire coming unsoldered and pulling off the underside of the switch body (I think its a combination of heat and the tension on the tightly fitted wire). The result being that the headlights only operate if one holds the stalk end flasher switch in! This happened on the way to Japfest once - made for a fun drive pre-dawn...
