Just got my documents back and I cocked up the identity documents. I couldn't send a copy of my drivers licence so, sent in other documents in its place. And they rejected the application based upon this I think.

I'm going to have another go now lol. My one worry is when they say identity documents they mean the vehicle's identity and not my identity..

Hi all, just letting you know that I have just received my UK registration for 73 US import.
Got it through without needing an MoT by stressing it was Historic Vehicle status.
DVLA did send an inspector round to check chassis & engine numbers etc
He asked if they were original wheels and suspension??
Application to inspection notification = 3 weeks
Inspection to receiving V5 = 9 days

Nice. I was lucky and didn't have an inspection. did you get a 6 or 7 digit number?

Congrats. Hope you enjoy the restoration.

Worth getting a new fuel filter for the engine bay; I bought a few. I’m almost finished doing the fuel tank strip out. Mostly to replace all the perished breather pipes which were leaking.

Thanks for the tip Graeme. Got a new fuel filter ready.
I am going to attempt removing the tank to have it cleaned out and check all the hoses / pipes etc and a new fuel sender might as well go in.

I just cleaned and painted my tank, didn't bother having the internals cleaned - seemed mostly ok. If I was worried, i'd fit a second fuel filter at the outlet pipe from the tank as well as the one under the bonnet.

This is a useful thread, as like me, you probably have the US vapour capture tank which i've ditched.

Got all the parts I needed from the UK. They are specified in this post, though I was missing a 13mm x 1m pipe, 8mm x 1m pipe, a 13mm > 8mm reducer and a 12mm elbow join.

This is where I got my new bumper from - firm is in Vietnam, but much cheaper than sourcing in the UK or USA. Front and back for £575 I think, plus import tax.

Lot's of threads of both of these topics.

Nice one Graeme.
Hopefully my tank will be in decent internal shape. I will take it off and tidy it up and give it a look see o_O

I have seen the bumpers from Vietnam and heard they are pretty good. I am not sure what to do with mine at the minute. They are in pretty good shape with overriders and look original. I will price up a re-chrome and just get new rubber from Vietnam - then again I keep thinking black fibreglass from FRP.
