The car is now tucked up in my heated garage so the blue car has been relegated to the driveway, under a cover.

Next job is to get it up on stands and remove all the running gear so I can get it powder coated before it starts to rust.

Removed all the suspension, brakes, and cross members from under the car and de-greased the lot ready for the powder coaters. Also got a great big tub of nuts, bolts, washers and assorted bit to go to the platers.

Now the dilemma. If you check out the pics you will see a lot of the underside is covered in green paint. Is this likely to be the original paint and if so, what do I do with it? I cant just leave it as there will be little bits missing and cracks that water can get in so I must do something. Shall I use a clear type waxoil or just use the black Shultz I used on the floors? It just seams a shame to cover it up if it is original.

IMO John, it would only be worth preserving this finish if the original paint was still on the whole body.

I'd go with the clear waxoyl. Minimal extra work and keeps the car looking real.

Looks like clear waxoil/dinotrol it is then.

Went to the powder coaters today with a boot full of stuff I've removed from under the car. He reminded me that all the bushes would need to be removed. I'm guessing the outer sleeve has to be removed from all the bushes other than the mustache bar as that's what I've done. They are going to blast/acid dip and powder coat the lot for £100. Sounds like a bargain to me. I'll drop them off tomorrow and they will be ready Wednesday/Thursday. Just need to find a plaiter for all the nut, bolt, washers and stuff. Picking up a full bush kit from Mike on Thursday so all being well, back on its wheels by the end of the weekend.

I think I already have that in the kit I bought a while a go Richie.

Terry - Bored last night after burning all the bushes out so I thought I'd update whats going on with the cars and the current plan. It will probably change daily though.

With another car gone and the black car sorted so its a pleasure to drive around in, I may as well continue with this car.

With the suspension and running gear all restored and the underside and floors sealed against the weather, what next to do? My current plans are:

1. Interior - New interior in butterscotch leather and re-dye all the plastic trim to match. Brown carpets and fit a dash cap.

2. Paint - Remove the wings and restore the engine bay, air tubes, and all shuts to there original green so I can fit weather strips to the doors and tailgate.

3. Drivetrain - S14 gearbox. 3.9 R180, throttle bodies and ECU, S/S exhaust and manifold. May use the Spike head or the mild engine I already have or even the custom turbo setup I have.

4. Do nothing to the outside except maybe put a rusty front bumper on as the current one is too shiny.

5. Drive it around and enjoy it.

I quite like the black hood. There was a much worse one on there when the car was in the US, maybe Mike should have left it on there ... have you got a significantly rusty bumper to match the car?!

Love it - Mike did sell a similar burnt-lacquer green car on eBay sometime before this one - but it was a 1970 car from memory - looked very similar though. Had a black interior and NO rust. Loved that look as well.

If you're doing the shuts I presume you'll repaint it at some point in the future?

I have various engines from a mild head worked l24 to a standard l28 plus various heads including one from spike.

Lot of work? I don't see it that way.

Door shuts will mean I can install the weather seals and if I paint the outside, I can paint up to the panel seam.
