Hi,

I tried to get on here tonight using Google Chrome but I got a message saying I could use any browser but. Is there a specific reason?

Hey,

just had to install Chrome to find out myself! :) Bit of research shows we may have a mod installed on the forum

Block Google's CHROME-Browser - vBulletin.org Forum

Basically it seems that anything you post using Chrome Google can use, so rather than give rights away to all forum content people using Chrome just get blocked. Will investigate it at work as if it's true we won't be using Chrome at work any more (work for a webdesign company).

Just read the EULA myself and cannot see anything in the licencing now, maybe they changed it? Will investigate and if it's old then I'll turn off the Chrome blocker :)

Don't turn off the Google Chrome blocker! The problem is a security risk. Chrome is built on the crap bits of netscape that Mac didn't hijack for the latest version of Safari (which is a good browser!). If you have a PC you should be using Firefox if you're savvy or IE if you're too scared to install a new browser. Chrome isn't a proper option. People seem to think that if it's Google it's great. Chrome is a perfect example of why this isn't so.

Not that I doubt you at all Jakko, but have you got any links to back that up? Am interested for work, but have seen so many urban myths I question everything :)

There was a thread on the 300zx-club about the dangers of using chrome and that it could do nasty things
They blocked it over there and I asked Andy to do the same here to be on the safe side
Please don't turn the block off

I am kind of tied on it. If you scan the web there are many articles about what can be divulged due to persons using Chrome. I kind of think Google are recording every Chrome users movements for the better of their advertisements. I also understand the urban myths concept and to many internet users, anything Google related is evil.

CNET. Plenty of articles on there. People 'Google' because they are too lazy to use the internet properly. Google isn't the internet and as soon as people realise that the better. But don't just take my word for it...

This one has me intrigued ...

Does anyone have any specific links to whatever this vulnerability is - I'm a bit sad when it comes to that kind of stuff - I'd quite like to understand the detail of the problem, and right now I can't see much indication from (for example) secunia.com of how any of the handful of vulnerabilities in Chrome 1-3 could cause an issue that would compromise the vBulletin application's security...

To be honest I'd be a tad worried if any web application relied on client-side to enforce security...

Not that I'm particularly fussed about Chrome (I've never used or seen Chrome), but if there is any detailed article out there I'd like to read it for my own peace of mind.

I can't find anything to support it still, even on CNET, and they offer it for download and the news about it is all shining.

Can't ban everyone at work using it yet, much as I'd love to as I personally hate the browser! However it is fast and the multi tab independence is nice...

hmmm

Google are already becoming the next Microsoft, soon we'll all be saying "M$ wasn't so bad, now Google runs the world and owns everything and we have no rights to any work we produce or privacy... etc etc"

I think they changed the EULA some time ago (see here)

I also heard that Google head-hunted Microsoft programmers to produce Chrome, but this info is 2nd hand and could be wrong!

Yeah, I think all these "bad Chrome" issues are from initial release, and it's been pretty well patched up now.

I still don't like it as a browser on principal (that now I have to make sure all our sites work in not just IE and Moz but Chrome/Safari et al as well.
