Fur Rondy Grand Prix

I only came across this after a friend sent the z pics below pics to me, and i did a bit of googling/reading - i dont know a great deal about it - but it looked like a fun event - up until 2009.

"Held in conjunction with the annual Anchorage Fur Rendezvous Winter Carnival, the Anchorage Fur Rondy Grand Prix has been the premier event of the Alaska Sports Car Club for over 30 years.

A street race held in Anchorage on city streets in February, the event started in 1960 as a three day mid-week event (qualifying, heat races, and then feature on last day). In 1964, it went to the traditional Saturday & Sunday format.

The Good Friday Quake of 1964 destroyed one of the streets used for the track, so event moved to Sand Lake as an ice racing extravaganza operating under the Fur Rendezvous name at first and then the North American Ice Racing Championship in later years.

In 1977, the event was back on city streets downtown where it featured snow berms as safety barriers. Notable guest drivers of the past include Chris Cook, Elliot Forbes-Robinson, Dennis Aase, and Bob Bondurant."

There are a sprinkling of zeds through what i could find in the info:

In the programs and listings - there was a few of a Z driven by 'friendly local insurance agent' - Bob Dow.

It seems to be a 327/360( ?) cu inch chevy powered machine with an auto box - and in the results - says it was a Scarab. That would explain why it is in the 'X' - unlimited class.

Not sure what that was like to drive in Alaska in those conditions - but looks like friendly Bob won the 1979 event - his car appearing on the programme of the 1980 event .

The aero treatments on that car look awesome. I’ve never seen one like it. Fantastic nostalgia
I had a rear spoiler like that but never fitted it to my trackday car. It's a copy of an American racer's design. Forgotten his name Jim...?

I like the wings too.
