Hi,
Alot of people complain of this and recommend tightening up all the connectors - obviously do not overtighten. I did this a while back and it worked. I'm told its nothing to worry about.

A common complaint on Z31 and Z32 models. Certainly check all hose clips and make sure there are no visible signs of leakage.
Some years ago in the USA there was a recall on 300s to replace injector hoses due to deterioration. I believe the rumour (or possibly the truth) was that unleaded fuel caused the deterioration???
I've never heard of a car going up in flames from this problem in the UK (other reasons, maybe.....)

Further on this - talking to a representative from Ancaster garages today, he commented that they have had a number of cases of Z32s getting hyraulic lock of the engine due to fuel leaking past injector seals into the bores. In an extreme case this would lead to destruction of con rods as the engine tries to compress the incompressible! This would only happen if the car were left for some time and then started. However, it seems likely that the fuel smell with no visible leaks could be a symptom of this problem - beware! At best, the continuous fuel leak will be progressively diluting the oil and washing the bores leading to premature engine wear.....

Hi,
I removed the plastic phlenum cover on my Z32 and tightened up all the connectors. The one that was loose was right at the front of the engine and difficult to get to.It seemed to solve the problem though.
Try this site for more info..

Long term it's probably best to replace the fuel hoses as they're by now obviously quite old.
