Time has come to start on the driver’s side. Not as much work to do as the passenger side and once done will only leave a hand fully of job left to complete the metal work on the old girl. On the driver’s side we are looking to replace the inner and outer sills, inner and outer rear arches, repairs to the rear jacking point and a few repairs to the drivers floor pan/bulkhead and bottom of the A post. I’ve been able to get most of the replacement parts but some parts will have to made. Enjoy the pictures.

Forgot to take pictures of the sill finished so I’ll add them later. I reason I forgot was because these turned up!

I tried to ignore the new wheels and front struts sitting there in the corner but I couldn’t resist a test fit lol

I'm full of admiration and awe at the work you're doing. Fantastic stuff.

My first car was a MK2 RS2000 Custom back in 1980 so I have a passion for them.

After all that hard work it deserves a very fine paint job. The amount of nice solid cars I've seen only to be let down by dodgy paint.

Well, the RS is close now to get its paint job applied and I cant wait to see it! Will post up some pictures once its done. I have now opened a facebook page here Autoresto (UK) Ltd - Automotive - Chelmsford, Essex | Facebook and have loads of unseen detailed pictures of the RS being done that you haven’t seen before so if you have a facebook account please feel free to have a look and don’t forget to Like it lol.

Merry Christmas everyone

The filler work and primer should be done by the end of the week so she should be in her final Midnight Blue over coat by next week.

Not long now.

How hard is it to get interior parts for these now.

What do you intend to do? Can you get the original cloth for the seats etc?

All the interior parts are now being remanufactured and are at reasonable prices, and if you can even wait until the Summer they are remanufacturing Mk I and Mk II shells that are going to built in South Africa.

Yeah I used to own an RS2000 in the '70s, but mine was a custom pack, obviously a bit different from yours.

I had a 79 Custom new when I was 17. It caught a lite on my way to a Fast Ford day and that was the end of that one.

I'd absolutely love a MK1 with steel bubbles. Orange with yellow.

This car came with beige beta cloth interior original and this is something we are having trouble with finding. It seems you can get black and brown beta cloth but not beige :(.
Most of the Interior part was in good condition and we found it not to hard to find replacement parts we needed .

Thanks

Well, after a long wait for a slot in the bodyshop things are finally moving along now. Went to see how the old girl is getting on today and I am very pleased with the results so far. The shell should be ready for collection mid next week and then the fun part of putting it back together.

Enjoy the pictures.

You've made a brilliant job of this car

Now I know that these fetch quite a bit of dosh when sold but what do you do when the buyer asks what it was like before it was sprayed? Show him/her the photos?

I reckon it's a dilemma for a lot of restorers.
