Exhaust hanger help needed

I’m currently fitting a Z-Story exhaust but my car doesn’t have the brackets to pick up the mount local to the diff. I have the 2 hangers either side of the rear most silencer but nothing else.
Can anyone provide a photo of the hanger local to the diff, I can’t see what I’m supposed to fix to on the car body.
Thanks

Hello chap,

Myself and Mr Woody had the same quandary.

You have two choices, on the joiner piece before the “S” part, there is a vertical piece that you can connect to the diff arrester bracket bolt. Alternatively, this is what I did and I think woody did the same? Not the neatest solution but I found that without it, the exhaust eventually sags.

Thanks for that Ali, A novel solution!.
I’ve had a look at the parts file and there s stuff shown but whether it was ever actually there on later cars is anyone’s guess.

There are two captive nuts in the top side of the forward (nose) diff crossmember for the factory twin pipe/single pipe hangers.

You could use one of those to drop a hanger from?

Thanks for sharing that Alan. [emoji106]

I couldn’t find anything under my car that would obviously work and put it down to mine being a late model and not having some of the mounting points etc.

I will have another look and if I have them, I will try to gab something that works / looks better than I have at present.

I *think* (not 100% sure...) that even the 'late' crossmembers with the single exhaust cutout still had one of the captive nuts for a hanger near the diff nose.

In any case - captive nut present or not - that area is still a good place to drop a fabricated hanger from. Lots of bolts that can do a little extra work!

I have an early and late one, the late does not have one. View attachment 40625
Additional hole not present in my late crossmember, would have been just the ticket!
I’ve spent too long on this today but the end result is real solid. I used the holes that mount the diff strap, with a bit of spacing it placed the hanger in the right place.

Ooooh you beauty!!! That is a very pleasing finish - maybe you should sell the design! ;) I am definitely going to steal that idea as it looks so much more elegant than my hacked solution.

Thanks Moggy for confirming the comparison between the cross members. [emoji106]

As Alan says, won’t take a lot of effort to drill and tap a thread there and fab something up.

I cut the tab off and re-welded in line with one of the holes used for the diff strap. I seem to remember it also needing to be located more on the other side of the pipe, so that it hung correctly.

Either the design of the exhaust has altered over time, or our cars are very different.

On mine, the tab can do with being just a couple of cm more forward to be directly under the arrester strap bracket bolt. It doesn’t sit quite vertical but close enough to be used.

Mine sits 60mm back from the bolt, and at about 11 o’clock as you look towards the front, it’s quite an early exhaust, 4yrs old now, so perhaps things have changed.
I think Peato’s car is a 2+2? so things are possibly a little different.
