Hi Guys,

I'm putting together a list of spares to take for next month's 2,500 mile road trip and wondered what you guys would recommend.

So far I'm thinking of:

Distributor cap and rotor
Fan belt
Fuel filter
Spark plugs
Poss fuel pump

Thanks,

Nick D.

If you have a points distributor, spare points should be on the list. But other than that I think I'd stop there.

Plenty of tools.
ring spanners, sockets, feeler gauges, screwdrivers.

If you are taking a spare set of points, I would also take a spare condenser.

Also, some jubilee clips of various sizes to fit radiator and heater hoses, a length of heater hose and some electrical wiring and connectors.

Finally get yourself Euro breakdown cover.

Happy motoring!:driving:

Done a Euro trip last year to Austria, turned out I needed none of my spares, but had alternator issues so take some contact cleaner, fan belt, wouldn't bother with spark plugs(you can get them everywhere) but take a spare coil, rotor and points if required possibly a cap as well. One tool I would definately take would be a small but good multimeter.

Most of my probles always seem to be electrical the mechanics of these engines are pretty strong, take other usual spares oil, bulbs, fuses etc.
Youll have a great time.

Cheers Guys,

Really looking forward to it. Ferry to Santander, then loop around Northern and Central Spain, time in the Pyrenees and zig zagging up central and Western France ending up (fingers crossed) at Le Mans Classic.

Hi Sean.
Seems to me you've missed including probably, among'st the most important items.

Spare hoses. Leave them at your peril. Also replacement lamps. Once upon a time you would buy a touring kit which included all the gaskets etc.
Have a great trip and don't forget to check the spare wheel and a pump.

He's already in Northen Spain mate and I'd have thought that if you left with decent hoses, you wouldn't need 'em on a trip....?

Thanks Chaps,

Yes hoses will be taken and no, not in Spain yet.

Collecting Z from re-trim tomorrow, then MOT (fingers crossed), oil change etc and off to Santander week after next.

Take a wire coat hanger to hang clothes and secure exhaust pipe when straps break/rot.

We took alternator, fuel pump, alternator external thingy (the bit the old 240Zs have which is inbuilt in the later alternators), and rather than a whole load of dizzy parts, just took pmacs advice and took a whole, freshly rebuilt dizzy. It was much easier swapping that whole on the Stelvio pass than it would have been messing around with setting up the points!
