Escort steering rack?

Evening all,

As part of my RHD conversion, I've been looking for a viable non-PS RHD rack which could be used.
The original RHD Datsun racks are getting silly expensive due to their scarcity, this led me to look for an alternative.

MK2 Escort racks are available in a wide range of ratios and qualities, from about £100 and seem a potential option?

From my measurements they'll bolt up to the mounts just fine.
Width between the inner track rod pivots is 600mm though, where the Datsun is 640mm
Without mapping out the suspension of the Datsun to calculate roll centres etc, would anyone know the effects on the Datsun of having a slightly shorter rack?
In my experience, generally you'll get away with shorter, but not longer.

I know the Subaru rack is a well established option, would anyone know the length of the Subaru rack between inner pivots?

The threads on the Escort rack are M14, so the next thing will be to find a suitable track rod end, if the rack is deemed to be a possible.

Thanks,

James

Can you elaborate? Are you referring to roll steer?
I’m no steering geometry expert but often installing a rack of different length will mean altering the length/angle of the arms
effecting the toot angle and maybe cause bump steer ?
tbh id stick with trying to find a original RHD rack they do come up from time to time I bought one on eBay a few months ago cheaply but I’ve seen some crazy prices being asked.
Here’s a link explaining toot/bumpsteer https://www.superproeurope.com/technical-steering.and.wheel.alignment.angles.cfm
