Evening all,

I don't mean to be treading on anyones toes here so please do not take offence if you are that wonderful person who typically organises the clubs attendance to these shows

That being said as I understand it the clubs main big two show's for the year are both the Donnington Historic and Japfest. With dates for both having been released I've realised that regrettably both show's clash and are on the same weekend (29-30th April) this year.

I've seen talk of having a club stand at the Donnington Historic however not for Japfest so far. Is it likely that there likely be a stand for Japfest as well as the Historic with members split between both show's? or is it more likely that people will be choosing one or the other?

I'm just trying to work out my plans for the weekend and thought it would be good to search out other members thoughts. I've not done a show with the club yet or the Donnington Historic before, however I'm planning on changing both of those facts this year. If both events are running I may be mad enough to do the Historic on the Saturday and Japfest on the Sunday.

Would be good to hear other people's thoughts and plans

Cheers, Mark

Agreed, a Club decision would be useful .. one, other or both. For my part, Japfest was certainly big and well arranged last year, but Donnington fell just before I acquired my car so can't comment

According to the Japfest website http://www.japfest.co.uk/japfest-donington there are 2 locations for Japfest this year - Silverstone in April and Donington on 1 July.

I was planning to go to Japfest in July as the weather is likely to be a bit better but if no-one else is going to that one and going to Silverstone instead, I may reconsider.

If you can bear not to go to Silverstone, you could effectively do both the Historic and Japfest.

Bear in mind that the Donington Historic, i.e. in the form of the Samuri Gathering, already has a spot booked, discounts for tickets etc. JK240 has posted about it in recent weeks. If S30 Zs are your thing, (and classic racing versus the tuner scene) that's the place to be for that weekend. Of course, people could do Donington one day, Japfest the other.

Japfest attendance for the last few years has been organised by someone on the 370Z forum, and it is a coordinated effort between the various clubs (Z Club, 300ZX, 350Z, 370Z, etc.). Z Club doesn't organise a stand of its own.

Personally, I would do both normally. This time, it'll likely just be Donington in April; but I'd definitely be up for Japfest Donington in July as well.

I'm in two minds weather to do Donny on Saturday then japfest Sunday but book a hotel near Silverstone or do weekend at Donny then do japfest 2 at Donny in july both good events

My view is that we should support the Donington Historic even first and foremost.

It's a great event and thanks to JK240 it is well supported by S30 owners.

This is true and I agree with the support point in this situation. Jonathan has done a great job and the wheels are already in motion for this year again. Remember it is a combined attendance with Classic Z Register, so this is the best attended event in terms of S30Zs of any these days.

Japfest is a cool event, but not at the expense of the Samuri Gathering IMO. Especially as Japfest 2 at Donington is an option a couple of months later.

Thanks for the support guys, I hadn't even spotted that we had an event clash. I've arranged for us to have the usual car club offer at Donington and had intended updating all the usual places (on here, Facebook pages, and emailing folks) in the next week or so. I hope that Japfest doesn't take too many S30 fans away from Donington

Cheers,

JK

29th & 30th April I'll be at Donington otherwise JK will slap me :ack:
Nah, in all honesty although Silverstone is only just down the road for me I will be attending Donington Historics as I think it's much more the right event for S30 owners and at which we have our own great event in the guise of the Samuri gathering, with a great site location(last few years anyway) and personally I much prefer seeing, hearing & smelling all the old classics rather than the modern rice burners, Rtypes and such. It's a like comparing a great British classic motoring event Vs a bunch a reversed cap wearing, burnout & donut doing lads havin' it large at midnight in a tescos car park :D Both fun but I prefer the former and anyway I'll be at Silverstone for the classics later in the year and if a Japfest slots in somewhere I'll also be along to that

Thanks for all the replies, good to hear everyone's plans. As I said in the OP my intention is not to undermine those who are already organising events such as JK with the Donnington Historic I just wanted to raise it to people's attention as clearly some were unaware. Glad to hear there's someone willing to put the time into organising such events in any case :D

That being said I may personally still choose to attend the Historic on the Saturday and Japfest on the Sunday as I have connections with other clubs who will be in attendance at Japfest. If that's the case I may also try and find a hotel by Silverstone on the Saturday night.

Having not done the historic before if your staying for the weekend do people usually camp and socialise in the evening or is it more a case of find a hotel that isn't already booked out? Could potentially be persuaded as it sounds like this is the clubs big event for the year.

Regardless I'll at least be attending the Historic on the Saturday and look forward to seeing so many Z's

They have a campsite right next to the track, I tried it in 2015. Bought myself a brand new tent & sleeping bag just for the event and woke up in the early hours of the morning with everything floating about in the tent and everything soaking wet  :smash
Last year I stayed at a place that Steve Burns put me onto. It was fine and Steve and a few of the other guys also stayed at the place. I'll book the same place again for this year if they ain't booked out already. Cedars Hotel, Loughborough. Maybe we could fill the place with Zedders :D
