'Whizzo' bought the car from Kevin Bristow's father, Malcolm.
Malcolm did hundreds if not thousands of circuit laps in the UK in it, being an enthusiastic member of the Goodwood Road Racing Club and a serial trackday participant. It was a lovely car with an excellent bodyshell, and scrupulously prepped and maintained for his father by Kevin. It used to run an L24 engine that I had used in my first 240Z, fitted with an early set of Weber 40DCOE-18s. Just a warmed-over spec with a bumped compression ratio, mild cam and (if I remember correctly) a Janspeed manifold. It ran great, stayed in tune and never gave any trouble.
Then he sold the car to 'Whizzo'...
'Whizzo' couldn't resist fiddling about with it, and - hey presto! - in short order he managed to have a carburettor fire. Somebody else's fault, of course, and he started pointing the finger at yours truly. Why? I hadn't touched the bloody thing for five years at least.
He got the nickname 'Whizzo the W******' in our house.
