Before I begin I wanna say that I'm pretty new to cars so sorry if I ask any stupid questions. So I was searching for engines on ebay out of boredom one night and found this 1jz twin turbo engine with the sr20 6 speed trans and I thought, hey maybe I should build my dream car .The 240z has been my dream car since I was a little kid and I really want to build one now that I got some money on the side. And I was wondering if the 1jz gtte engine with the sr20 trans fits in the 240z.

I'd be wondering why you'd put that much torque through one of those boxes when they fail behind tuned sr20det lumps anyway? thats taking you mean a the C spec nissan box?

I don't think it's a C box - the 6 speed is a FS6R92A, so the Internet says :)

As noted above, its been done plenty of times. Johnymd on this forum has had a 1JZ 240Z for a long time and developed it into quite a weapon (and not just for in a straight line or dyno run bragging...).

Go forth and read this and other threads on HybridZ:

I'd check your options on the 71C gearbox; as franky says, countless boxes have been nuked when attached to tuned SR20DETs, so may not be the best option if you are going big. Plus, those of us that like to retrofit them to S30Zs as an upgrade over the original boxes don't need the supply further shrinking by turbo-ed yobbos wrecking even more of them!!! ;)

The other question you should ask yourself is why you would want to build a engine swapped Z? A built or turbo'ed L-series is quite capable of going more than fast enough for the chassis in question. Also, there are a lot of things to deal with before you even get to dropping an engine in, assuming you start with a project car. People don't tend to buy a nice, running, driving Z and then engine swap it. Buying a JZ engine would be the cheap bit. Restoring a project shell - £££££.

Mine has the W58 box. Not sure how strong it is compared to the one you are looking at but even these are well known to be weak.

As everyone else has pointed out, it wont be cheap and you mention you are new to cars so wouldn't be doing it yourself?

When/if my gearbox starts adding neutrals, I will be probably go down the CD009 route. Although by the time I get mine running, petrol probably wont exist anymore!
