Cheap 432 - Market correction? Wrong place?

It's the worst time of the year for these auctions - pretty much every car at the East Anglia Car Auctions performed horribly, the majority not even hitting their reserve

Same car changed hands in the USA in 2017 (Amelia Island auction) for $170,000.

The car was 'known' in Japan before it went to the USA. Had been somewhat unsympathetically modified to look a bit like a 432-R, and was missing quite a lot of 432-specific parts (most notably its correct wheels). There was also some gossip from the Japanese side about past crash damage repairs. Some of the interior vinyl - around the rear strut towers and inner arches - had been replaced with (later) S31 type plain pebblegrain pattern, possibly indicating repairs in those areas?

I think the car was well bought at this auction, and the new owner would be able to make some fairly easy corrections to it if that's what he wants. Being modified, badly timed and in the wrong context probably put a lot of people off. I know a couple of people who didn't bother registering to bid because they thought it would go for much more, and now regret missing the chance.

That's auctions for you. 'Casino!'

Even with the above, as you say, its well bought. Imagine how happy you'd be if you'd paid £60k for it.

Building up your wife-credit ? Don't kid yourself, they won't leave you alone now for 'X' months, just crack on with it at the same time or life'll pass you by and it'll only be electric cars allowed on the road by the time you've finished the cutest two-person garage sofa !

Actually I'd probably be more happy had I taken the plunge and bought the genuine 432-R I was offered back in the late Nineties in Japan. At that point I felt 30k GBP was a bit too much of a stretch for me, and I'd be better able to afford one a few years later.

The last genuine 432-R to change hands publicly - in late 2017 - worked out at just over 240k GBP... EXTRA:(

I know of a similar regrets re Ford RS200 and Metro 6R4 when Gp B was cancelled and surplus cars were for sale.
