We have discovered that the DVLA figures about how many Zs and ZXs are registered in the UK are wrong. Somewhere between the street and your V5, they make big mistakes about what your car is. This is following on from the table printed in the mag just now.

I have found out that the SMMT will do an analysis based on VIN nos so am trying to get a good list of the relevant ones.

If you have already contributed to the thread on www.300zx.co.uk http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/ubbforum/Forum6/HTML/000558.html thanks - there's no need to respond again.

More info and a better laid out table is at
http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~webster/chassisnos.html

I don't need to know what your chassis number is, just let me know if your car / number is NOT correctly listed below.

The list is:

HS30 240Z 1969-1973 UK 2 seater coupe
HLS30 240Z 1969-1973 LHD 2 seater coupe
RS30 260Z 1973-1978 UK 2 seater coupe
GRS30 260Z 1973-1978 UK 2+2 fixed
RLS30 260Z 1973-1978 LHD 2 seater coupe
GRLS30 260Z 1973-1978 LHD 2+2 fixed
HS130 280ZX 1978-1984 UK 2 seater coupe
HGS130 280ZX 1978-1984 UK 2+2 fixed
KHGS130 280ZX 1978-1984 UK 2+2 targa
HLS130 280ZX 1978-1984 LHD 2 seater coupe
HGLS130 280ZX 1978-1984 LHD 2+2 fixed
KHGLS130 280ZX 1978-1984 LHD 2+2 targa
HGZ31 300ZX 1984-1989 UK N/A 2+2
Z32 300ZX 1989-1999 import N/A 2 seater coupe
GZ32 300ZX 1989-1999 import N/A 2+2
CZ32 300ZXTT 1989-1999 import TT 2 seater coupe
GCZ32 300ZXTT 1989-1999 import TT 2+2
HZ32 300ZXTT 1989-1999 import TT Convertible
RGZ32 300ZXTT 1990-1994 UK 2+2 targa
RZ24 300ZXTT 1990-1996 USA LHD N/A 2 seater coupe
RZ26 300ZXTT 1990-1996 USA LHD N/A 2+2
RZ27 300ZXTT 1990-1996 USA LHD N/A Convertible
CZ24 300ZXTT 1990-1996 USA LHD TT 2 seater coupe
CZ26 300ZXTT 1990-1996 USA LHD TT 2+2

The idea is to gather the supporting info and talk to the DVLA in May when 2001 info should be available. Any results will be offered to the club and the forum. No  personal details will be divulged.

Cheers - Gio

Hi,
The figures for the Z31 model don't make sense in the magazine!
According to them, there is only one targa auto model in the UK?Surely this is the most common derivative? Also there is no mention of Turbo or NA...Merely man/auto and targa man/auto.
There are never 719 manual, fixed roof Z31s in the country.Should 'Targa'  be read as 'TURBO'?

You're right, Jez. The story so far is on the links in this thread but in brief the people who code the V55 info onto the computer are not Z knowledgeable (if there is such a word). The form - or import dealer - says its a 300ZX, they look on the list they have and the first one is a Z31 - so that's what it gets coded as. What clerk sitting in a DVLA office knows or cares about the difference between a 300ZX Z31 or a 300ZX Z32?

We do, tho <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

In the current Z Club magazine the Targa Auto should read Turbo Auto. THere is just the one (to my knowledge) - a Japanese home market import. All UK Z31 turbos are manual. Similarly, for Z31 Targa Manual read Turbo Manual. All UK Z31 models are Targa roof! Please, no more calls from Z31 Auto owners asking "Is mine the one?".

I think that we are all convinced that import Z32s are going AWOL somewhere on this list. The total number of Z32 models is only just in excess of the total number of UK cars sold and I don't think we have lost a large number of these yet.....

The majority of Z32s that I sell parts for are imports. What has gone wrong?
