Centre arm rest/lid

Anyone ever fitted one to a car that didn't come with one?

Other than buying an armrest/lid what else is required?

I assumed all 260s had lids?

The problem with them is that they can't take a lot of weight and people tend to put their hands on them to support themselves - therefore the lid cracks.

I see there are new ones advertised online with slightly thicker padding. Do they mount straight to the console or does it require something else?

From what I believe the centre console has to be the type that accepts the lid, rather than an open console, see pics, one with slots one without

I think my lid was an original extra when the car was new. And my console doesn’t have the slots.

How confusing! So that one above hinges at the rear, presumably just with self tappers into the plastic of the console?

How does the OE side hinged one fit?

Saccy might be able to confirm as he had one for sale which looked exactly like my one a while back (think he sold it) ... but I think it was a dealer option job when new ...

Mine is the same as the one in the pic below.

Reading on the 'net though I'm not sure 240 and 260 consoles are the same?

All the ones I pictured are 260z or 280z specific, all the originals I have appear to be side hinge as Rob said.
I too have one what I would think is an after market or DIY one with the chrome hinge at the end, see pic, the original lid looks like it slides into the slots on the console, see other pics

Cheers Mike (UK66), a bit too rich for my wallet, got to put a new roof on the garage. Big garages are great until you have to replace the roof!

Thanks for the pics Mike (Mink). I'll have to take a closer look at my console to see if there's any sign of where fixings should go.

So did the 260 and 280 come with a centre console lid as standard from the factory (side opening) or was that a factory extra? I think no 240 had a factory lid and they were dealer fitments when new (like mine). Mine also has racing mirrors, slots, the side strips and a rear louvre etc, so the dealer did well out of my car’s original owner.

260 came with a lid which opens sideways,I think you can swop the hinges over if you have a left hooker,The early 260 s might be the same as the 240 which had no lid but we call the early 260 a 240 and half as it’s a bit in between compared to a late Zed
