Car actually moved this year!!

After a few years of really not looking at it (house, kids, working abroad 50% of the time) then I've actually had the 500ZX out this year :) Must admit even with the issues I have I've been loving driving it. Forget what a wonderful thing a big capacity normally aspirated engine is.

So now I have to sort:
1) Issue with PRV in oil pump, misbehaves at ~5,500rpm. have some new springs to try from pace. Very annoying having the rev limit just when its coming on cam!

2) Swap the diff. I currently have a 2 way R230 which is waaay too harsh on the road and anyway, actually belongs to Rich Newton. Going to put a standard viscous R230 in for now then swap to my R33 GTR big flange R200 when I get a chance. Stock 300ZX TT gearing is a bit daft with 9k rev limit.

3) Swap the seats, cobra ones are too big on the base cushions to the point where I can't heel and toe as my knee hits the steering wheel!

4) Few minor leaks.

5) Find a better air filter solution / location.

John your still alive!

Last time I saw you was at Mallory way back.

It would be great to see your car out again. We will be going up the pod and some track days this year,
you'll have to bring the car out.

I'll certainly try to get to some events this year if I can get the niggles ironed out (and it doesn't blow up / catch fire!).
PPC in the park was a pretty good day out, not sure what happened to it. It got cancelled at short notice the year Mallory was taken over, don't think its been on since. They do run a series of sprints now I think which may be worth a look.

Good days Rob. Are they going to do that event again?

Mallory is mainly a bike circuit these days although they do still run the testing days Matt - for guys like you with a race licence.

Anyone notice on the left, the clean looking +2 with Fender Flares and what appears to be a Webasto sunroof.... is it still around?

Also the red MK3 escort with two front ends to the top right!!

Bit of an update, after replacing the spring in the PRV then I still have some oil system issues :( Looks like the scavenge can't get the oil out quick enough and the crankcase is pressurising plus the oil is turning to foam. Think it's a combination of DP from the cooler and the tank being rear mounted.
Went to AH Fabrications on Tuesday who I can't recommend enough and going to get a new under bonnet tank made and re-plumb the cooler onto the pressure feed, hopefully all that will finally sort out the oil issues then I can move on to doing something temporary with the intake until I can get on the dyno and see what lengths I actually need.

Hey John,

Long time no chat. I really can't wait to see your car out and about. I don't know if you've seen, but I'm back in a Z now, this time its of the 240Z variety!!

Shame your still having issues with the oil system.

Anyway, hope to catch up soon, Ive got an operation at the end of this month, so i'll not be out and about for 3ish months, YAY!!

Hi Rich, yes mate I saw the pics of the 240, very nice! Always fancied one myself but I'm sort of swinging towards either a 370Z or a Cayman S or an Aerial Atom for next toy. Think I'll always keep the ZX though :) Even bumbling about at 1/2 revs I've still been enjoying it, old cars just give so much more feedback than modern stuff.
Haven't forgotten about your diff either, it's there for you!
Good luck with the op mate, hope all goes well.
