Hi,
And then you have the old Micra ice racer with a mid mounted 400hp 3.0l v6 NA Nissan engine !:D....and aren't top speeds irrelevant in this country anyway?....last time I went over 112mph, I got a 56 day ban!

Hi Nick,

Just seen the photo you've uploaded - she looks like a beauty. Congratulations ...

First Impressions? I'd be interested how you rate the driving experience.

I suspect you're not feeling too disappointed right now :D

"last time I went over 112mph, I got a 56 day ban!" Not heard of Track days then?
I suppose the Micra R will be in direct competition with the Renault Clio (whatsitcalled) with the engine mounted amidships - is it the same chassis ?

Hi,
My Z31 was intended as a road car and that's where I prefer to drive it....but if track days are your kinda thing, then fair enough.
Actually I have exceeded 112mph since....but on a private road of course!;)
I would imagine that most 350Z buyers wont take their cars on a track, either.Probably better to buy a caterham or some such Go-kart for track work, anyway!

Oh No!! Not the 4x4 Argument again ...

I seem to have just been involved in this on 350zuk.com ... lol.

FYI, I own a 4x4, and am far more likely to take that to Tesco than my 350, since the boot is the size of two shoe boxes!! :D

I must admit, since Mrs JB runs an SLK, we bought it specifically for carry capacity, and they're much more interesting/fun than a Volvo estate :D Bloody good fun when you do get a chance to yomp around the fields too!!

Long live 4x4s ... :D :D

God i love this car. Went to manchester yesterday and it was 5 hours of pleasure, what a head turner. Black shows up every spot of dirt.
What do u guys suggest is a good polish. I use Autoglym on my 240z which seems fine.
My wife used a brillo pad on her Zafira (seriously)

i use mer, i polish my car twice a year but when i wash it i put 3 cap fulls of mer into a bucket of hot water(looks awfull ) this keeps the looking great all the time,oh i do soak the car with a hose pipe before washing to loosen the grime. then a good leather off. hope that helps !

Nope - not guilty .. as if I would be responsible for such an attrocity!!

BTW Nick, the polish they're all talking about on the 350 forum is called "Zaino" .. I've put in an order on a group-buy and will report back accordingly. I too am using Autoglym at the moment, which I've always found excellent.

You're not wrong about the car turning heads .. I think it turns even more than my Z32 did, and that was not a shy car by any stretch!! :D

"much more interesting/fun than a Volvo estate Bloody good fun when you do get a chance to yomp around the fields too!!"
1) There are 4x4 Volvo Estates 2) in diesel but also petrol engined with a LOT of BHP !
2) If you use your 4x4 off-road you are excluded from my comments in so much as you do occasionally use it to it's full capacity. If one owns a sports-car that can do some serious mph and take corners at high Gs, then it seems logical to occasionally use those factors, hence my reference to taking advantage of track days. If such a car was bought purely for the road, it seems a bit sad to drive it at legal or just above leagl speeds during your ownership.
A 240 still turns more heads although I'm very happy for all of you with the new Zs !

Hi,
But there's more to enjoying your car than high speeds or top speeds!....Such as using the acceleration and torque and cornering power!.....You'll learn this as you get older!:D

I was careful to avoid saying on the limit - "serious mph and take corners at high Gs" ! How old are you Jez - I'm forty this year !

I know all about torque, cornering and acceleration and you're right, they're great to enjoy on the public roads but if you've never accelerated wide out of a circuit corner, you've missed something ! Besides, finding out the cars' (and your) limits in a secure zone (eg, a circuit) isn't going to do any harm on the public roads !

Hi,
I once drove around Castle Coombe circuit in a mate's Scimitar and was overtaken by a Morris Minor (with a V8!)!
Just wait until that baby arrives!....the only high speed manouveres you'll be doing is those involving nappy changes!:D

p.s. We're both grumpy old men then...I'm 42...going on 50!:D

OK - Bad analogy, but I still stick to my argument that driving 4x4s is fun, even on the road. Besides, with 180bhp mine gives most "average" cars a bit of a shock! Generally, however, I find the whole concept of estates dull and always have done, and they look daft with chunky tyres and wheels! :D ;)

I think I use it to it's full capacity when it's stuffed full of crap for the tip too .. and whilst I take your point, I do get fed up with people saying there's no reason to own a 4x4 unless you go mud-plugging occassionally. I disagree, *some* of them are great vehicles in their own right, and if you need 7 seats .. it's either one of these or an MPV (yawn).

A 240 still turns more heads although I'm very happy for all of you with the new Zs !

Hmmm, maybe, I'll give you that one. But, mark my words ... once I've got the space an S30 *will* be coming my way!!! Oh yes, one will be mine (but don't tell the missus ;) ). Then I'll have a choice of headturners!! :D

Should we move this thread to "SoapBox" now? :)

JB.

There is serious talk of banning 4x4s in Paris for the extra pollution they create !!! No more Cayennes, X5s, Touregs - what will the manufacturers think of next to bleed off our money !

Sell the 4x4 and buy that S30, when you want to go to the tip, rent a van or pull a trailor ! I heard that in the UK now, you can't dump your DIY gravel, bricks etc at the tip, one must rent a skip etc ! Here, during my last DIY attack, I took a ton of rubble to our tip (all accepted free of charge) !

"if you need 7 seats .. it's either one of these or an MPV (yawn)."
When I need 7 seats, I'm gonna buy me a huge Yank tank with false wooden panels down the side ! If I want to be ecological, I'll fit GPL ! A 7 litre will p*ss all over most 4x4s

ps don't tell Steve Lack but when in his Capri 2.8i, a black Mini overtook us like we were going backwards in the rain at Goodwood ! Bored AND turboed it was !
