So no range rover calipers on 505 discs, cut coil springs , mahoosive wide and tall tyres from a transit van, redrilled FORD PCD wolfrace slotmags...Samuri wouldn't exist in your world ?:D

But you are probably OK with folk who have the mobile phones / holders stuck on the windscreen bang in their line of vision :p:rolleyes:

Preet first of all anything hanging from the mirror is wrong and dangerous. Just take note next time you are out and about. Those huge garlands of flowers are criminal. A crack in a windscreen in the 'wiper-sweep' is an MoT failure but you just look at what people hang from their mirrors. In my estimation 50% of cars have something hanging off the mirror. If you ride a cycle or motorcycle beware!

My comment re-mods was aimed at more modern cars which are already very capable. Historics lack in some respects and may benefit from upgrades however you are correct some of those mods are dangerous. I've said this before too - why is Joe public (untrained and unqualified) allowed to do structural bodywork on their car that is on the public highway? There is no way this would be allowed by an insurance company on a modern car.

I'm guilty of this, I've done brake/suspension mods and structural welding. I can now see in this modern day why there needs to be tighter control on it.

I think conversion from carbs to clean and economical EFI and cats should be mandatory for all petrol cars that are on the road.

I think conversion to carbs despite claims of clean and economical EFI and cats should be mandatory for all petrol cars that are on the road.

Good point but in this respect a classic is safer, smaller a pillars, not those fat things pushed way out front blocking the view, the mirrors on modern cars are also too low. In my wife's Honda, I lowered the seat right down and the mirror itself is still blocking my field of view and I'm only 5ft 11.... Rear view is terrible. Much easier to see out of a classic! (without dangly dice)

Another 'area' FBHVC have been 'looking into' is selling secondhand car parts. Ebay have rules relating to environmental regulations and that caused a query from members of FBHVC.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/selling/selling-vehicles-parts-accessories?id=4647&st=3&pos=1&query=Selling vehicles, parts, and accessories&intent=selling secondhand car parts&context=9010_BUYER&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1347
Scroll down to 'Selling second hand parts'

As far as I understand things you are ok selling parts off your own car but if you are in the business of dismantling cars and scrapping them you need to be able to prove that you are doing so safely and not dumping hazardous chemicals etc.

I am slightly worried regarding the misinformation - it's akin to leading us down the diesel route, and then turning round and pointing the blame and the responsibility back on the consumer.

I can think of one guy who has been a source of second hand parts for many of us.

Before I sold my Samuri I put some new springs on the front and took my old springs (along with garden rubbish etc) to the local 'tip'. I deposited the springs in the 'metal' skip and then moved on the the 'garden' skip. A member of staff had watched me (they do a lot of that) and told me in no uncertain terms not to deposit car parts in the skip, he said that car parts are not household/domestic waste and that I should take them to a scrap yard. I explained that they were off my personal car but he didn't change his 'tone'. My immediate thought was 'jobsworth' but perhaps this new ruling had something to do with it? I doubt it.

So, you've had all your fun, poisoned the planet, risked everyones' lives and now we should all behave like good boy-scouts because you've grown a conscience ?:D

A jobs-worth - so long as it's clean and free from oils, asbestos etc, they must accept it.

Recycle bin gets all my bits of metal etc. If it's too big, out comes the angle grinder. Not worth the queues at the tip. Saves fuel too.
