Brake kit, interest?

To add, it's not just about the brakes, smaller lighter wheels, not over tyred, no pas, proper suspension setup, all the little bits designed to work together to give you the feel you want from the car, not just a sum of its parts type thing.

When I finally reach the final furlong I'm really hopeful the car will feel as I want, it's the most important aspect for me.

What did you do rob? How much was it?

One 'upgrade' was the Samuri route ;) Range Rover with Pug vented discs. Very heavy calipers.

The final was similar to Vipergts, Wilwoods and big heavy discs. DJR. About £900 I think.

What I did notice however with the final upgrade was a huge improvement in stopping power and heat dissipation. I only used it once at Cadwell and then sold the car - the new owner ground the 'Wilwood' name off and used it on the Historic Monte. :driving:

When I compare 2 of my cars, the blue 1jz and red 260z, there is not a major difference in feel between them but they are vastly different to the average zed. Both feel so tight and planted. Plus they both ride exceptionally well when compared to standard zeds. The brakes on both cars feel very reassuringly good. The 260 has the fourways iron 4 pots and vented disks with fourways sectioned struts while the blue car has modern GAZ suspention and modern wildwood brakes. Any upgrade will be a massive leap forward but as you push higher up the cost ladder the differences will be marginal so IMO, go for the best that you feel happy with and don't get too hung up on it. The most important thing is to get the car back on the road so you can enjoy it.

DJ fitted Wilwoods to my 240 as an upgrade for me and they were shocking.

Previously I had them fitted to my MK1 GTi better but not great

So you didn't actually reduce the unsprung weight it would seem.

Guys, from a practical viewpoint I doubt if anyone on here would notice any difference in unsprung weight - I didn't.

franky, you assumed I was talking about a reduction for some reason rather than an increase.

Understood.

However, having seen your immaculate build to date and anticipated quality of finish of the car, will you really give it some beans so as to fully exploit the driving experience so as to fully appreciate the feel ?

Or will it be a show and shine, static show , trailer queen ?;)

I'm building it to drive, enjoy and use, I'm not a fan of show and shines or plastic prizes. Its B road heaven here in the southwest.

Its not an immaculate build though as I can't afford what my head would like, very presentable is the target.

Well you could 'get away' with just spaced standard calipers and vented discs to be brutally honest. The main enemy is heat build-up during spirited road use.

I'd prefer not to be on the edge, it also means i'd have no issues on the odd trackday etc.

If you saw Charles Barter outbraking a Europa into Cascades (Oulton Park) using standard calipers and discs you'd have more confidence in them. ;)
