Many Thanks! And great chatting to you today and letting me ogle your cars 😍

Unfortunately, I fear that you will finish all 3 off your Z projects before I get half way through mine!

I did. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I’m going to finish all three of our cars and then I’m coming round to yours with tools!

I am amazed what lovely touches and features your car has still intact and unmolested. The internal surfaces are lovely. And those factory markings are fascinating. What a great resource this site and its contributors are.

After meeting you today Phil, and after reading this entire thread, I’ve come to the conclusion that you need to pull your finger out and get this car done! Looking forward to your next update. Soon. 😂

So, 6 months later, time for a little update! I've just looked back through the thread and discovered that I haven't actually done any work on the car for nearly two and a half years . Why? Well, as previously mentioned I took on a part time job which evolved into a full time job - that took away about a year and a half of my life, and then I ended up moving house up to Oxfordshire. That took away another year and all the money I'd earned during the job!

I've recently managed to finish and ship my youngest son's track car (MX5) over to the States, so I now have space in my garage to actually work on the 240z! Unfortunately, it's not as big as my last garage, but I can't complain too much as it's a lot bigger than the single garages that I see some people have to put up with!

I had to build a 'temporary' garage shed to store the 240z in - that will now be put to use storing my 240z/RB26 project in!

AT LAST!!!!!

I've actually made a re-start on the restoration!

Having rearranged the garage for the 23rd time, I'm happy with the space I have made, and have got the car back on the rotisserie, ready for more sandblasting.

Previously, I had been concentrating on the underside, but I have now decided to sort out the topsides - to prevent the little rust blisters from getting worse. I keep a dehumidifier running 24/7, so it's not too bad.

Nice. Good to see it progressing.

How much dust does the sandblaster put in the air and around the garage?

I see a blast cabinet in a previous post. Which one is it and are you happy with it?

Hi Ian,

I'm using the vacuum sand blaster again, the red thing in the first photo- see post 235 on page 12. It does leak out a bit of media and dust, but not a lot and I just suck it up off the floor as I go along. Even my large compressor struggles to keep up with the air consumption, so while I'm vacuuming the floor (with the blaster), the air compressor tank gets topped up. It is fairly slow going (it took just under two hours to do the patch on the roof) but it does leave a lovely finish for the epoxy primer to adhear to.

About as good a job as you could get at home I guess. Perhaps using a paint stripper to get it to bare metal and then finishing it with the blaster would be a quicker job?

Surprised your compressor can't keep up, I recently installed the same compressor in my garage, hoping it can keep up with a blasting cabinet. Wouldn't mind a last pot also sometime, for the odd thing that I can't do in my cabinet. I reckon if the wind was in the right direct I could use it in the field right next to my garage. Would probably go for their small pressure pot blaster, and keep its use to outside only.

I think that’s the same make of rotisserie I had my Mustang on a good few years ago … must find a pic. Nice to see some progress … !

It’s probably a good thing the compressor can’t keep up as blast large areas of panels can distort the pane due to heat generated from blasting even specialist blasters sometimes won’t do roofs door skins or bonnet many a classic car have been ruined due to blasting large panels good progress but be careful 🤓
