Actually next job should be flushing the coolant system through ready for a potentially long lay up. Any pointers?

I guess just remove the thermostat, flush it through with a garden hose and fill it up with antifreeze? Or is there more to it than that? Same with the radiator?

Cylinders will have some oil poured in

I don't think the block needs anti-freeze in it if it is inside. You can flush it through or sure but there are a lot of funny waterays in the block so I've read so difficult to get it all out unless you maybe suspend from the crane and do it at odd angles etc.

Maybe upside down, on its side etc. Will all help.

Took the clutch off for a look see - glad I didn't try and run the car as I originally planned - it's totally knackered EXTRA:( Was obviously brand new when it went in and hasn't been run, but has rusted and pitted the surfaces :(

I’m with Rob and Franky on this one. The sheer violence of the forces involved will soon resurface the flywheel for free. It seems you’ve gotten rid of the worst of it anyway.

I can’t see how you could cause any damage and worst case you use it and decide you don’t like it - a great excuse to go fidanza lightweight flywheel! :p

That's the plan then  I'll give the surfaces a better scrub, and see how we get on - probably won't be until next year at the earliest anyway! I've put the clutch cover back for now - but left the friction disk out.

Also completed removing the gearbox, diff, all engine bay components and fuel/brake lines. Started a quick clean up of the engine bay. Passenger side cleaned up well, but drivers side revealed a serious problem which I should have spotted before :banghead: More pictures tomorrow when I've cleaned up that side..........

Finished cleaning all the 'stuff' off the front radiator panel - passenger side also has some minor deformation - not unsurprisingly.

Also cleaned the rest of the engine bay which looks quite nice now. However, the damage to the front right corner is far worse than I initially thought EXTRA:(

In all honesty I should have spotted it when I bought the car, but I'll put that down to a combination of stupidity and lack of experience! And of course there were I number of items hiding it - fuel filter, air tube hose etc etc. OK, I'm trying to make excuses!

Fact is, the right hand side chassis rail has been pushed upwards deforming the front inner wing. I don't think I'll tap that out with a hammer, so it'll need to go on a jig. I've been down to a local body-shop who specialize in classic cars who say its repairable. It's provisionally booked in for next week, but with the CV I'm not sure if that will now happen.

But here's a dilemma I could do with some opinions and advice please! I'm also considering removing the air tubes so I can get the insides blasted - looks simple enough but will I end up causing more damage than good? - they don't look too bad and I could always spray them full of wax. And should I do that before I get the body straightened?

The front radiator support panel is also badly deformed so I'm thinking of stripping that out also and putting a new one in if I can find one - if not, I wonder if I can just remove it and get it straightened by a sheet metal worker - what do you guys think please?

I would remove as little as possible.

It's not too easy to see from the pictures as to what part of the chassis rail is bent. Is it fine up to the suspension crossmember?

The chassis rail itself is not 'bent' but must have pivoted upwards at some place - I guess at the joint below the bulkhead.

The crease is in the inner wing just above the cable clips in the second picture

Hi Ian,

Many thanks for the links. I guess that is Woody (Andy). I didn't know he did the radiator panels - I've already bought his front right panel - looks like I'm going to need the full set

Sorry that your car rebuild has gone back - but glad you seem to be enjoying yourself!!!! Would love to go diving out in the Maldives one day!
