I'm wondering if anyone knows what these mirrors are? I doubt anyone will know as they could be fully custom but thought I would check.

Those are certainly very close in terms of body shape and design, slightly different weave on the carbon and the arm design is different, but might be able to make it work.

When I asked MZR at the NEC last year they wouldn’t tell me, which wasn’t surprising (I think Woody wanted to know), but then someone did track them down, or very close ones anyway.

I think they are modified Autoblaze mirrors? The certainly look very similar. Do a Google search using 'Images' and put in 'Autoblaze mirrors'. This would tie in with the MX5 connection mentioned above. Maybe they have been carbon fibre 'wrapped'?

From experience a few years ago before they were even as big as they are now I have found them to be very unfriendly and unhelpful, even for the smallest of things.

I would hope not, would be a poor effort on cars costing as much as MZR cars do.

Not concerned with the carbon finish so much as how they are mounted.

If anyone is near an MZR car in the future please take a photo of the way the mirrors are mounted please.

Looks to be quite a simple mount, off the mirror into the door frame, would take a couple of hours with a manual lathe.

You're spot on Mike, I was interested and you very kindly enquired on my behalf but to no avail, it seems MZR have no interest outside of complete one off custom builds now. As much as I hear good things about them and the quality of their cars looks unquestionably fantastic they really don't seem to have any interest in supporting the community :(

    Ta da ;)

Personally I'm thinking to eventually pick up something like these and custom fab some kind of bracket to fit in the corner of the door frame. I love the look of these type of mirrors (so many others looks rubbish imo). It's on the long term to do list....

If MZR have spent time and effort in adapting/developing their own custom mirror mount, and it is a small part of the 'identity' of their product, then why should anyone expect them to give that information away, or even help others to copy it? They are quite within their rights to play their cards close to their chest, and I don't think they owe anybody anything.

Good luck to them I say.

Albrecht isn’t far wrong. If MZR sold their parts separately, their ‘product’ loses some of its uniqueness and therefore explanation of cost. If people can modify similar shape/size/finish mirrors to ‘copy’ the MZR one, then fair play to their ingenuity as well.

I feel as though you're not understanding my point, I have no qualms with them not sharing their secrets or helping to copy products in any way. They don't owe anyone anything.

I'm not suggesting for a second that they just 'give that information away' however they could quite easy sell parts to recoup costs on R&D and have a nice side line. You only need to look at Alfaholics online shop and the wealth of parts and upgrades that they've developed and happily share and sell to the community. Everyone's a winner then and it doesn't detract from their product at all imo.

It's obviously their right to do whatever they want, I just feel as though both the company and the community could benefit from interaction. My only experience with the company was when I previously enquired about parts they had advertised on their website as for sale, when MZR did get in touch they suddenly decided that the parts weren't available (only for full customer builds) and have obviously decided to focus on in house builds only since that time. Again it's perfectly within their rights to do so, but for a company to claim to be passionate about a product (S30's) and then appear to not want to interact with the community or turn up at events/shows to share their product and promote them selfs seems odd if you ask me....

We can agree to disagree ;)

BUT....it never hurt Dick Barbour or Peter Brock to sell 'their' parts.....even Samuri conversions sold off-the-shelf bitz - all good publicity and part of the myth......however, one must respect MZRs' decision.

If you want that look, it wouldn't be hard to replicate.

I know of a bike builder, who will only sell parts to people if he's happy with the bike they're going on. As if having one of his parts on your bike could ripple across his own builds. I guess like a vetting system.

With the better photos from the link supplied by Woody it gives me a much better idea, I should be able to know out one of those.

    Thanks for that, very helpful.

I'm thinking I might look into this type of mirror as an option while I can before the rebuild so I am able to repair the metal in the doors where the current mirrors are. I think they are the sleekest design of mirror I have seen on an S30.

I still can't understand why people think the MZR cars are overpriced, first of all, it is a business so they exist to make money, so there needs to be some decent profits per car, its not like a personal home project where you don't need to consider all the man hours you put in. Secondly I don't think many people realise how much time and work this level of finish and detail take to complete, not to mention the costs of the specialist parts they produce for them (although the more they make the more the initial costs for this are offset) Now I've not seen them in person but from the photos I have seen they seem to be very well done, almost the same level as singer but yet they are massively cheaper than a Singer.

I feel they could sell select parts to the market, for a hefty price so they don't become too common. If people know where these nice parts came from it can only help their name.

Anyone remember the two road cars, later joined by a third race-car made by Fourways in the early '90s for James Taylor ?

£50k the red one, £70k the green one and god-know what for the blue racer. Yes, there were a lot of nice parts on the cars but the attention to detail and panel-fitting was perfection and that costs time = money.

Personally the MZR, mirrors, wheels and front spoiler are not to my taste...fortunately too as I'm sure I couldn't afford them...if they did sell seperately.

Autoblaze door mirrors... surely? But with custom mounts.
