Any Scalextric fans on here?

Steve, that collection I saw at your place a few years ago was truly world class!!! So you still have all your cars!?
Ali sold a lot of them at 2 separate auctions in various lots a few years ago when was having one of my rooms being decorated
A club member Trish from Ireland was sitting on A beach in Spain and won 3 of the lots in the first auction and Pete Parmenter from Swindon won about 4 lots in the 2nd Auction
Still have 3 wall cabinets of Z Models left mostly 1.64 models so the 1000 plus models is now down to about 200

So I had my two grandsons to stay-over at the weekend and I got the Scalextric out.

What a pain it is to get everything to work properly - not really a toy for kids unless assisted by an adult.

The track had a few areas where the gap in the rails had become buckled due to mis-use. Sorted that.

Some of my cars had poor braids - sorted that.

The magnet in the Texaco Sierra was too powerful and caused it to stall in places - took the magnet out.

My brand new Camaro had a guide that was too deep and fouling the track under the rails - sorted that by filing the guide and rounding the front of the guide.

My unused 260Z had a split in the rear hub so the wheel was loose - sorted that by replacing with a spare from another car. However had to swop tyres to the originals because the dia was too small and underside of car was rubbing on the track.

My Subaru tyres were split but I'd bought some spares. Fitted those.

So I had two 'pairs' of cars Camaro/Subaru (fastest pair) and 260Z/Sierra (without magnet) loose at the rear (best pair for driver control).

In the end after banning the kids until grandad had sorted everything (wife laughing) we had a great time.

My banked 180' bend was too steep for the cars without magnets unless you attacked it really fast so I've now bought some 'flat' curve pieces. I've bought some more track because I discarded the cross-overs and hump-back bridge etc - too much crashing and thus interruption with the kids. I've also bought a second-hand lap counter to settle arguments ha ha.

Fair play for your dedication there Rob, as long as your grandsons enjoyed it, bet that was worth the effort 👍
Yeh, they were screaming and belly laughing. It would have been so easy to consign it to scrap. I love repairing and mending anything.
