Another Sam story.

As the Samuri name is a brand name,

Not sure that 'Samuri' is a brand name. It isn't of course a real word (samuri being the correct in the context of japanese warrior). Can't find any reference to the term being registered and so probably open to general commercial use

Isn't there a danger of flogging a dead horse with the brand name /IP side of things re:samuri? I mean if there was any tangible economic value, surely the party who felt done by would have pursued this through the courts by now:confused: :smash:

Samuri is indeed a trademark and is owned by Spike Anderson as per the attached lik to the intellectual property office

http://www.ipo.gov.uk/tmcase/Results/1/UK00002501989

The official Samuri register which is adminstered by Mike Lee who is a friend of Spikes in spain is on:

http://www.samuri.eu/index_files/Page1566.htm

As you will see no's 75, 76 and 77 were approved by Spike and indeed 77 is Spikes car.

Whilst they may not have been done at the time of Spike owning Samuri Conversions, so long as they are in the spirit of the originals and authorised by Spike, they are genuine Samuri's.

As there was no clear or set spec, differing parts, differing people doing it, surely it's just a paint job thing?

Thanks grb184, that info seems to clarify the situation. I note that Samuri Conversions Ltd was registered (resurrected) on 17th December 2014 out of Welwyn. As your post location is stated as Welwyn, I assume this is your good self. If so , do you have exciting plans or is it just to protect the name? (forgive me and ignore the question if am being a bit too nosey)

Going off the point, I sort of got interested in this story partly because of the Volkswagen / Rolls Royce branding fiasco. You can read about it in Wikipedia under Rolls-Royce Motors

While i think the 'Samuri' saga is very interesting/ relevant (dare I say important ) to our favoured motor - I find many of the arguments a bit moot.

People refer to specs. varying and different paintworks etc... so what - 2 of the cars on the Samuri registers (therefore Samuri's??) are Toyotas.

Samuri by the very name are a conversion Company - therefore any conversion carried out officially by the Company :)D) are Samuri conversions in the same way that Devon have modified many types of camper vans and cars (not just VW's).

If the Samuri Company carried out any conversion and verify it on a supported register - surely thats a Samuri - regardless of what it is.

If 'The Company' start to fit out Transit vans with a 1.0 litre micra engine and call them Samuri's - that is what it will be - a Samuri Conversion.

NOt surehow they'd look in red and brown though .....

To be clear I didn't actually say that is wasn't a trademark. If you look again I said that I was not sure that 'Samuri' is a brand name. There are important legal differences.

It is certainly interesting that the 'trademark' (which is white lettering on either a red or grey background') only appeared in 2009!.

Coincidentally the first publication of the Samuri book was also in 2009
The font of Samuri of the title of the book is the same as the 2009 Samuri Trademark and does not seem the same as the signwriting on most of the earlier cars although there are a couple of refurbished cars with the newer Samuri font signwriten on them

The disclaimer on page 3&4 of the book seems to cover a few interesting points

I wouldn't read too much into the disclaimer - seems like a generic copy paste disclaimer to cover their asses for every book they publish.

The change of lettering sure is interesting though
